Chapter 439: It Must Be Wonderful To Be Loved By Him
Madelyn was unsure where her sudden jealousy stemmed from. However, hearing that Sebastian had gone on a business trip with another woman, even knowing it was strictly professional, brought a wave of heartache. She felt inexplicably unsettled. Immediately, she hailed a taxi and returned to Thornton Corporation.
Jillian noticed Madelyn's distressed expression. "Madelyn, what's wrong?" she asked. Just an hour ago, Madelyn had left cheerfully. Why had she returned so crestfallen?
"I'm fine," Madelyn stubbornly insisted, attempting nonchalance, but her disappointment was evident.
"Did you two have a quarrel?" Jillian guessed, correctly surmising that only Sebastian could cause such a rollercoaster of emotions for Madelyn.
"We didn't argue," Madelyn denied, shaking her head. She simply felt upset and needed time to calm down. Jillian, understanding, left her alone. Matters of the heart required no outside interference.
A knock came at the door. "Come in," Madelyn called. Derek entered.
"Dad?" Madelyn was surprised. "Why the personal visit? You could have sent a message through Cyrus, or I could have gone to your office. What brings you here?"
Derek smiled kindly. "I have something to discuss. The company's receiving a significant international project, and I'm planning to give it to you to manage. A good opportunity to enhance your skills. What do you think?" He looked at her expectantly.
Derek looked at his daughter with contentment. Though Madelyn had been somewhat clueless in the past, her abilities were impressive when focused. Having her take over the company soon would ease his mind. The matter was settled.
Meanwhile, at Lockhart Group, Sebastian's earlier upset with Madelyn left him distracted. He constantly thought of her angry face. At a loss, he called Malcolm.
"Malcolm, do you know how to cheer up a girl?" Sebastian asked abruptly.
Malcolm was taken aback. The question, coming from Sebastian, was incredibly strange. "Mr. Lockhart, have you upset Mrs. Lockhart?" he asked tentatively.
Sebastian neither confirmed nor denied it. Malcolm cleared his throat awkwardly. Who would have thought this CEO would earnestly await his advice? And why did Malcolm find it adorable?
Malcolm offered his insight: "Mr. Lockhart, every girl has a fondness for romance..." He then relayed his advice.
A faint smile touched Sebastian's lips.
In the evening, as winter's early darkness fell, the city lights blazed. After work, Madelyn left Thornton Corporation with her colleagues. Ahead, astonishment and uproar erupted.
"Who prepared all of these?" someone exclaimed.
Madelyn and Jillian were intrigued. "What's going on?" Madelyn asked, puzzled. Jillian shared her confusion. They pushed through the crowd.
Thornton Corporation's location in a bustling commercial plaza meant many onlookers craned their necks to see the gathering crowd. Then, everyone was astounded.
Madelyn saw a miniature "snowfall" of catkins, created by a person in a pink panther costume using a blower. Beneath the catkins lay a sea of pink rosesโnine hundred and ninety-nine, meticulously wrapped.
"I wonder whose boyfriend this is. He's so thoughtful! The lady sure is lucky!" someone commented. Jillian watched enviously; it was the kind of romance seen only in TV dramas. Madelyn's heart was moved. Who wouldn't be?
Suddenly, someone spotted a letter hidden among the flowers. Everyone strained to see. Jillian, eager, pulled Madelyn along, but the crowd was too dense.
A letter emerged revealing a message: "Madelyn, my heart overflows with happiness with you. So, here are nine hundred and ninety-nine roses for you, Madelyn. I hope we can be together, happily and forever.โ
"Wow, this person is truly so romantic!" "This Madelyn woman must feel truly blessed to be loved by such a wonderful man!" The crowd murmured.
Hearing her name, Madelyn was dumbfounded. Jillian, equally surprised, verified that the letter was indeed addressed to Madelyn.
Jillian, overjoyed, exclaimed, "Madelyn, this is for you! Come quickly!"
"What?" Madelyn replied.
