Chapter 437: Hatred For All
โBtch, btch! Despicable wretch!โ Janessa screamed hysterically as security guards dragged her to the company entrance and unceremoniously dumped her outside. One guard spat on the ground, snarling, โGet lost!โ
Cole, his disdain evident, added, โMs. Janessa, the companyโs position should be clear. We hope you wonโt embarrass yourself by returning.โ
โYou, you all!โ Janessa raged, unexpectedly angered by Cole and the guardsโ disrespect. โYou judgmental lot, just because Iโve fallen from grace today doesnโt mean I wonโt rise again! Just you wait! Iโll make my comeback, youโll see! And then youโll regret this!โ she ranted, pointing at them.
Cole offered a refined smile. โWeโll wait expectantly for that day. I hope you wonโt embarrass yourself again.โ His comment alluded to her previous grandiose, and ultimately inaccurate, pronouncements to the media. Janessa, in everyone's eyes, had lost all credibility. Though reluctant to admit it, she knew this, fueling a fiery rage within her.
Cole, wishing no further interaction with her, turned to return to the company. The security guards, back at their posts, were determined to prevent her re-entry.
โUgh, itโs driving me crazy!โ Janessa muttered, staring at the towering skyscraper, her frustration threatening to overwhelm her. In her mind, she vowed malicious revenge: โJust you wait! One day, Iโll ensure you all are beneath my feet. Iโll trample you harshly, paying back every ounce of humiliation Iโve received!โ
Janessa hailed a cab and headed to Ingram Manor. Desperate, she sought help from Rachel. Twenty minutes later, she arrived.
Rachel sat comfortably on the living room couch, watching television, when she heard hurried footsteps. She turned to see Janessaโs ashen face.
โHold on!โ Rachel exclaimed.
Janessa paused. She hadnโt bathed in a day and had planned to freshen up first, but the sight of Rachel crumpled her composure. โAunt Rachelโฆโ she whimpered.
Annoyed, Rachel glared, seething. โHow dare you come back?โ
โIโฆโ Janessa recoiled at Rachelโs anger.
โI entrusted you with a perfectly fine company, and you were kicked out immediately! Janessa, what good are you!โ Rachel exclaimed, livid and exasperated. โThe reason Iโve painstakingly nurtured you is in the hopes that one day you can reclaim Sherritt Group and avenge your late mother! But look what youโve done! If this is all youโre capable of, you can forget about avenging your mother; I doubt you could even protect yourself!โ
Janessa felt profound heartache and helplessness. Her voice broke. โAunt Rachel, I canโt be blamed entirely. I was schemed against, leading to the negative publicity.โ
Rachelโs anger intensified. โDo you think Iโm talking about those news stories?โ
Janessa was speechless.
โNegative press isnโt a huge problem for a public figure. I can clear your name! But you manipulated the stock market! Unauthorized trading is illegal, and you couldโve gone to jail! My connections bailed you out; otherwise, you'd be in prison!โ
Rachel's fury peaked at the mention of the unauthorized trading. For a moment, she wished she could see inside Janessaโs head.
Janessa realized her folly. She apologized, โAunt Rachel, Iโm truly sorry. I was under immense pressure from shareholders and let my emotions cloud my judgment. Thatโs why I messed upโฆโ
Rachel, growing weary, interrupted. โEnough! Stop playing the victim. Since youโve admitted your mistake, go to your room. Youโre grounded for three days. Stay there and reflect. Youโre not allowed to leave.โ
โNo!โ Janessa protested, utterly unwilling to reflect for three days. She pleaded, โAunt Rachel, I understand my mistake, please donโt ground me!โ
Rachel, impatient, shooed her upstairs, โGet moving.โ
Janessa knew arguing was futile and headed upstairs. Back in her room, furious, she slammed the door shut. Burying herself in the quilt, she sobbed uncontrollably. Resentment consumed her; she despised everyone and loathed the world.
Why was there always someone obstructing her? Was this fate's deliberate obstacle course? If so, the heavens were surely blind! โEven though Iโm not a saint,โ she thought bitterly, โCheryl and Madelyn arenโt angels either.โ Why did they succeed while she endured lifelong humiliation as an illegitimate daughter?
โNo, this isnโt fair!โ she raged silently, cursing in her mind. โYou lowlifes are ganging up on me! You think Iโm a pushover!โ
โAll right then, just wait and see! One day, I will repay all the torment Iโve endured a hundredfoldโno, a thousandfold! I shall prove that Iโm the ultimate victor!โ
