Chapter 437: Hatred For All

โ€œBtch, btch! Despicable wretch!โ€ Janessa screamed hysterically as security guards dragged her to the company entrance and unceremoniously dumped her outside. One guard spat on the ground, snarling, โ€œGet lost!โ€

Cole, his disdain evident, added, โ€œMs. Janessa, the companyโ€™s position should be clear. We hope you wonโ€™t embarrass yourself by returning.โ€

โ€œYou, you all!โ€ Janessa raged, unexpectedly angered by Cole and the guardsโ€™ disrespect. โ€œYou judgmental lot, just because Iโ€™ve fallen from grace today doesnโ€™t mean I wonโ€™t rise again! Just you wait! Iโ€™ll make my comeback, youโ€™ll see! And then youโ€™ll regret this!โ€ she ranted, pointing at them.

Cole offered a refined smile. โ€œWeโ€™ll wait expectantly for that day. I hope you wonโ€™t embarrass yourself again.โ€ His comment alluded to her previous grandiose, and ultimately inaccurate, pronouncements to the media. Janessa, in everyone's eyes, had lost all credibility. Though reluctant to admit it, she knew this, fueling a fiery rage within her.

Cole, wishing no further interaction with her, turned to return to the company. The security guards, back at their posts, were determined to prevent her re-entry.

โ€œUgh, itโ€™s driving me crazy!โ€ Janessa muttered, staring at the towering skyscraper, her frustration threatening to overwhelm her. In her mind, she vowed malicious revenge: โ€œJust you wait! One day, Iโ€™ll ensure you all are beneath my feet. Iโ€™ll trample you harshly, paying back every ounce of humiliation Iโ€™ve received!โ€

Janessa hailed a cab and headed to Ingram Manor. Desperate, she sought help from Rachel. Twenty minutes later, she arrived.

Rachel sat comfortably on the living room couch, watching television, when she heard hurried footsteps. She turned to see Janessaโ€™s ashen face.

โ€œHold on!โ€ Rachel exclaimed.

Janessa paused. She hadnโ€™t bathed in a day and had planned to freshen up first, but the sight of Rachel crumpled her composure. โ€œAunt Rachelโ€ฆโ€ she whimpered.

Annoyed, Rachel glared, seething. โ€œHow dare you come back?โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆโ€ Janessa recoiled at Rachelโ€™s anger.

โ€œI entrusted you with a perfectly fine company, and you were kicked out immediately! Janessa, what good are you!โ€ Rachel exclaimed, livid and exasperated. โ€œThe reason Iโ€™ve painstakingly nurtured you is in the hopes that one day you can reclaim Sherritt Group and avenge your late mother! But look what youโ€™ve done! If this is all youโ€™re capable of, you can forget about avenging your mother; I doubt you could even protect yourself!โ€

Janessa felt profound heartache and helplessness. Her voice broke. โ€œAunt Rachel, I canโ€™t be blamed entirely. I was schemed against, leading to the negative publicity.โ€

Rachelโ€™s anger intensified. โ€œDo you think Iโ€™m talking about those news stories?โ€

Janessa was speechless.

โ€œNegative press isnโ€™t a huge problem for a public figure. I can clear your name! But you manipulated the stock market! Unauthorized trading is illegal, and you couldโ€™ve gone to jail! My connections bailed you out; otherwise, you'd be in prison!โ€

Rachel's fury peaked at the mention of the unauthorized trading. For a moment, she wished she could see inside Janessaโ€™s head.

Janessa realized her folly. She apologized, โ€œAunt Rachel, Iโ€™m truly sorry. I was under immense pressure from shareholders and let my emotions cloud my judgment. Thatโ€™s why I messed upโ€ฆโ€

Rachel, growing weary, interrupted. โ€œEnough! Stop playing the victim. Since youโ€™ve admitted your mistake, go to your room. Youโ€™re grounded for three days. Stay there and reflect. Youโ€™re not allowed to leave.โ€

โ€œNo!โ€ Janessa protested, utterly unwilling to reflect for three days. She pleaded, โ€œAunt Rachel, I understand my mistake, please donโ€™t ground me!โ€

Rachel, impatient, shooed her upstairs, โ€œGet moving.โ€

Janessa knew arguing was futile and headed upstairs. Back in her room, furious, she slammed the door shut. Burying herself in the quilt, she sobbed uncontrollably. Resentment consumed her; she despised everyone and loathed the world.

Why was there always someone obstructing her? Was this fate's deliberate obstacle course? If so, the heavens were surely blind! โ€œEven though Iโ€™m not a saint,โ€ she thought bitterly, โ€œCheryl and Madelyn arenโ€™t angels either.โ€ Why did they succeed while she endured lifelong humiliation as an illegitimate daughter?

โ€œNo, this isnโ€™t fair!โ€ she raged silently, cursing in her mind. โ€œYou lowlifes are ganging up on me! You think Iโ€™m a pushover!โ€

โ€œAll right then, just wait and see! One day, I will repay all the torment Iโ€™ve endured a hundredfoldโ€”no, a thousandfold! I shall prove that Iโ€™m the ultimate victor!โ€
