Chapter 426: Deal With Her However You Want
That night, Madelyn returned to Lockhart Villa after completing her tasks. Arriving home, she found Sebastian watching the news.
Smiling, she leaned close, asking, โWhat are you watching?โ
Sebastian, taking advantage of their proximity, pulled her into his arms. His voice cool and detached, he replied, โNews about the Sherritt family.โ
Piqued by his response, Madelyn joined him. Soon, a television interview began. The interviewee was Janessa, the newly appointed heiress to Sherritt Group.
The reporter, microphone in hand, asked, โMs. Sherritt, how does it feel to have inherited your fatherโs assets at such a young age?โ
Janessa smiled calmly. โNaturally, Iโm happy. After all, assisting my father while heโs unwell is my duty.โ
The reporter nodded approvingly. โYouโre truly a good daughter, Ms. Sherritt.โ He then asked, โHowever, some are skeptical about your rise to power. They believe you might not be capable enough. Whatโs your response?โ
Janessaโs smile widened. โI find such a view quite old-fashioned. The times have changed, with many young, successful people emerging. Although Iโm young, my capabilities are not subpar, as anyone in the company can attest. If you doubt me, consider Mr. Lockhart of the Lockhart Groupโhe took over in his early twenties.โ
A wave of shock rippled through the audience. Both media and viewers considered Janessaโs boldness surprising. Madelyn, too, let out a scornful laugh before continuing to listen.
Janessa continued, โMr. Lockhart was in his early twenties when he assumed control of Lockhart Group and elevated it to its current status. Iโm acquainted with him, and while I may not have his same level of experience, my capabilities are comparable.โ
At the end of the day, no one expected Janessa to be friends with the CEO of Lockhart Group. He was a legend, aspired to by countless people. Janessa's connection with him implied extraordinary capabilities. She happily took over Sherritt Group, silencing her critics.
Madelyn, after watching the interview, was inexplicably angry. โSebastian,โ she said, her brows furrowed, โsince when are you friends with her? Sheโs got some nerve making that claim.โ She was displeased that Janessa used Sebastian for comparison. Sebastian had built his own empire; how could Janessa compare?
Contrarily, Sebastian remained calm. He asked Madelyn, โHavenโt you always been at odds with Janessa? Now that sheโs made her move, arenโt you going to stop her?โ He knew her stubborn nature would prompt a response.
Madelyn replied forcefully, โNeedless to say, I wonโt let her get away with this! I have a plan.โ She wouldnโt stand idly by; a head start for Janessa meant future business complications. She decided to nip this in the bud before Janessa gained too much traction.
Sebastian had no objections but expressed concern. โI donโt mind how you deal with her, but be careful. Donโt worry me.โ
Madelyn, feeling his warmth, murmured, โGot it.โ Sebastian, cradling her, felt at peace.
The following day was a weekend. Although Madelyn didn't have to work, she dedicated time to studying, rising early as usual. At the office, she found Jillian already there.
Jillian explained her diligent work ethic, saying, โI want to prove myself and avoid disappointing Mr. Thornton or giving the impression I only got this job due to connections. So, I want to learn more.โ Rumors had circulated about Jillian's position stemming from her connection to Madelyn, and some spoke ill of her behind her back. Jillian didn't deny her connections but was determined to earn respect through hard work.
Madelyn, greatly gratified, pinched Jillianโs cheek. โMy Jilly, you work so hard.โ Jillian laughed, and they began to work together. Their frequent past review sessions had fostered a remarkable synergy. Madelynโs instructions were immediately understood and acted upon by Jillian. Throughout the morning, they worked hand in hand, enjoying the process.
At noon, they clocked out together. Jillian asked, โMadelyn, what are you having for lunch? Letโs eat together.โ
Madelyn declined. โI still have some things to take care of.โ
Jillian, disheartened, suggested, โHow about I accompany you, and then we grab lunch?โ
Madelyn agreed, and they hailed a taxi.
