Chapter 396: Teach Her a Lesson

Wesley protested, โ€œEnough, you two! Single people are a protected species! Show some care for us!โ€

Madelyn laughed, โ€œOh, come on. You?โ€

โ€œEven foxes prey close to home. Youโ€™re the one who doesnโ€™t understand the advantage of proximity. Donโ€™t blame us,โ€ she said, glancing pointedly at Harriet, clearly attempting to pair them.

Wesleyโ€™s face reddened. He glanced at Harriet, suddenly speechless.

Harriet, perceptive as always, understood the situation. She had long observed Wesleyโ€™s casual yet meticulous kindnesses. However, her heart belonged to Sebastian, a fact she refused to acknowledge.

Seeing the situation about to unravel, Harriet quickly stood, saying hastily, โ€œSorry, Iโ€™m full. I have some matters to attend to,โ€ before swiftly exiting.

โ€œHey, Harrietโ€ฆโ€ Wesley called, but only received the sight of her retreating back. She didnโ€™t even look back.

Deeply frustrated, Wesley glared at Madelyn. โ€œItโ€™s all your fault! Why did you have to speak up?โ€

โ€œHow is this my fault?โ€ Madelyn felt wronged. โ€œYou like Harriet, donโ€™t you? You have to confess sooner or later. Be a man and be bold!โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t need to interfere,โ€ Wesley retorted angrily.

Sebastian, seeing the impending argument, frowned. โ€œEnough, are we eating or not?โ€ His cold, clear voice held a hint of impatience.

Reluctantly, they ceased their bickering and resumed eating.

The next day at Ingram Manor, Javier announced he had discovered information about the club raid. Janessa immediately rushed downstairs, foregoing even brushing her teeth.

โ€œWhat did you find out?โ€ Janessa asked, pulling her coat tighter.

Seeing her sleepy appearance, Javier felt a pang of sympathy.

โ€œCheryl again?โ€

Janessaโ€™s anger flared. โ€œThat damned Cheryl, is she not going to stop!โ€

Javier tried to comfort her, โ€œMs. Sherrin, calm down. My investigation suggests Cheryl has been deliberately targeting you recently.โ€

โ€œIsnโ€™t that obvious?โ€ Janessa had long noticed, her tone venomous. โ€œThat bitch first stole my project, and now sheโ€™s taken down my club. If I donโ€™t deal with her, who knows what sheโ€™ll do next! She might even try to kick me out of the Sherritt family.โ€

Given the circumstances, there seemed nothing Cheryl wouldn't dare do.

โ€œBut I recall Cheryl as incapable of such things,โ€ Javier said, puzzled.

โ€œRegardless of Cherylโ€™s abilities, even if she possesses them, she wouldnโ€™t dare act against you so easily,โ€ Javier continued. In his memory, Cherylโ€™s intelligence was always lacking. Beyond flattering Rupert, she had no other skills. Otherwise, Janessa wouldnโ€™t be where she is in the Sherritt family today.

โ€œOf course, she doesnโ€™t have that kind of ability!โ€ Janessa shouted, her voice filled with rage. โ€œWith her stupid and pathetic brain, I could crush her with my little finger. How could she suddenly become so smart overnight? Iโ€™m sure someone is advising her behind the scenes.โ€

Janessa was almost certain. In her memory, Cheryl was insignificant, capable only of petty actions posing no real threat. Now, however, Janessa felt targeted by a considerable force, undoubtedly someone supporting Cheryl.

โ€œMs. Sherritt, do you think Cherylโ€™s mother, Scarlet, is behind this?โ€ Javier speculated.

โ€œImpossible,โ€ Janessa denied instantly. โ€œSince we framed Scarlet, sheโ€™s been distraught, crying and causing a scene daily. How could she have the energy to meddle in our affairs?โ€

โ€œThen, could it be Madelyn?โ€ Javier suggested.

Hearing Madelynโ€™s name, Janessa narrowed her eyes. โ€œActually, Iโ€™ve suspected Madelyn many times. But each time you investigated, you found nothing, so I wasnโ€™t sure. However, thinking about it, she still seems the most suspicious. I really donโ€™t understand it.โ€

Janessa felt increasingly frustrated, unable to solve the mystery. Javier, seeing her distress, felt sympathy.

He asked, โ€œShall I investigate Madelynโ€™s recent activities?โ€

โ€œWill make her pay!โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Javier nodded and left to carry out her orders. Janessa then went upstairs to prepare for university. The thought only fueled her resentment.

Since her expulsion from her previous university, Rupert had secured her a place at a third-rate institution. The quality of education paled in comparison to her old university, and now she barely wanted to attend classes. Her once excellent grades had plummeted. And it was all because of Madelyn.

As she pondered this, Janessa cursed silently. Madelyn, the grudge between us deepens. Donโ€™t worry, this isnโ€™t over!

At noon, after classes, Janessa returned home, where Javier had also returned.

โ€œSo, did you find anything?โ€ Janessa asked.

Javier shook his head. โ€œNo. Recently, Madelyn has been busy dealing with the companyโ€™s mess. She has nothing to do with this incident.โ€ In recent days, Madelyn has been essentially busy cleaning up the companyโ€™s mess. This matter had absolutely nothing to do with her.

โ€œThatโ€™s strange thenโ€ฆโ€ Janessa was genuinely puzzled. She couldnโ€™t believe Madelyn had nothing to do with it.
