Chapter 396: Teach Her a Lesson
Wesley protested, โEnough, you two! Single people are a protected species! Show some care for us!โ
Madelyn laughed, โOh, come on. You?โ
โEven foxes prey close to home. Youโre the one who doesnโt understand the advantage of proximity. Donโt blame us,โ she said, glancing pointedly at Harriet, clearly attempting to pair them.
Wesleyโs face reddened. He glanced at Harriet, suddenly speechless.
Harriet, perceptive as always, understood the situation. She had long observed Wesleyโs casual yet meticulous kindnesses. However, her heart belonged to Sebastian, a fact she refused to acknowledge.
Seeing the situation about to unravel, Harriet quickly stood, saying hastily, โSorry, Iโm full. I have some matters to attend to,โ before swiftly exiting.
โHey, Harrietโฆโ Wesley called, but only received the sight of her retreating back. She didnโt even look back.
Deeply frustrated, Wesley glared at Madelyn. โItโs all your fault! Why did you have to speak up?โ
โHow is this my fault?โ Madelyn felt wronged. โYou like Harriet, donโt you? You have to confess sooner or later. Be a man and be bold!โ
โYou donโt need to interfere,โ Wesley retorted angrily.
Sebastian, seeing the impending argument, frowned. โEnough, are we eating or not?โ His cold, clear voice held a hint of impatience.
Reluctantly, they ceased their bickering and resumed eating.
The next day at Ingram Manor, Javier announced he had discovered information about the club raid. Janessa immediately rushed downstairs, foregoing even brushing her teeth.
โWhat did you find out?โ Janessa asked, pulling her coat tighter.
Seeing her sleepy appearance, Javier felt a pang of sympathy.
โCheryl again?โ
Janessaโs anger flared. โThat damned Cheryl, is she not going to stop!โ
Javier tried to comfort her, โMs. Sherrin, calm down. My investigation suggests Cheryl has been deliberately targeting you recently.โ
โIsnโt that obvious?โ Janessa had long noticed, her tone venomous. โThat bitch first stole my project, and now sheโs taken down my club. If I donโt deal with her, who knows what sheโll do next! She might even try to kick me out of the Sherritt family.โ
Given the circumstances, there seemed nothing Cheryl wouldn't dare do.
โBut I recall Cheryl as incapable of such things,โ Javier said, puzzled.
โRegardless of Cherylโs abilities, even if she possesses them, she wouldnโt dare act against you so easily,โ Javier continued. In his memory, Cherylโs intelligence was always lacking. Beyond flattering Rupert, she had no other skills. Otherwise, Janessa wouldnโt be where she is in the Sherritt family today.
โOf course, she doesnโt have that kind of ability!โ Janessa shouted, her voice filled with rage. โWith her stupid and pathetic brain, I could crush her with my little finger. How could she suddenly become so smart overnight? Iโm sure someone is advising her behind the scenes.โ
Janessa was almost certain. In her memory, Cheryl was insignificant, capable only of petty actions posing no real threat. Now, however, Janessa felt targeted by a considerable force, undoubtedly someone supporting Cheryl.
โMs. Sherritt, do you think Cherylโs mother, Scarlet, is behind this?โ Javier speculated.
โImpossible,โ Janessa denied instantly. โSince we framed Scarlet, sheโs been distraught, crying and causing a scene daily. How could she have the energy to meddle in our affairs?โ
โThen, could it be Madelyn?โ Javier suggested.
Hearing Madelynโs name, Janessa narrowed her eyes. โActually, Iโve suspected Madelyn many times. But each time you investigated, you found nothing, so I wasnโt sure. However, thinking about it, she still seems the most suspicious. I really donโt understand it.โ
Janessa felt increasingly frustrated, unable to solve the mystery. Javier, seeing her distress, felt sympathy.
He asked, โShall I investigate Madelynโs recent activities?โ
โWill make her pay!โ
โYes,โ Javier nodded and left to carry out her orders. Janessa then went upstairs to prepare for university. The thought only fueled her resentment.
Since her expulsion from her previous university, Rupert had secured her a place at a third-rate institution. The quality of education paled in comparison to her old university, and now she barely wanted to attend classes. Her once excellent grades had plummeted. And it was all because of Madelyn.
As she pondered this, Janessa cursed silently. Madelyn, the grudge between us deepens. Donโt worry, this isnโt over!
At noon, after classes, Janessa returned home, where Javier had also returned.
โSo, did you find anything?โ Janessa asked.
Javier shook his head. โNo. Recently, Madelyn has been busy dealing with the companyโs mess. She has nothing to do with this incident.โ In recent days, Madelyn has been essentially busy cleaning up the companyโs mess. This matter had absolutely nothing to do with her.
โThatโs strange thenโฆโ Janessa was genuinely puzzled. She couldnโt believe Madelyn had nothing to do with it.
