Chapter 387: Do You Find It Fun To Deceive Me?
After the drinks arrived, Eunice rapidly consumed them, the harsh liquor burning her throat. Despite the alcohol's intensity, she seemed unaffected, drinking effortlessly, her distress palpable. Around her, the bar staff whispered, exchanging disbelieving glances. โHas that woman completely lost her senses?โ one murmured. โCan you believe it? Drenched to the bone, looking for a drinkโtalk about bad luck,โ another added. โExactly!โ a third chimed in. The manager's booming voice cut through the murmurs, silencing them. โWhat are you all doing? Stop prying into the guests' personal matters!โ
Despite the curious stares, Eunice remained indifferent, her despair and hatred numbing her to the outside world. The bar, once filled with fond memories of Kieran, now felt like a constant reminder of his betrayal. โLook at that, thereโs a drowned rat over there,โ someone commented from the second floor, drawing attention to Euniceโs plight.
Seated above, Janessa and Hayden observed Eunice with amusement and contempt. โTsk, tsk, if thereโs anyone to blame, itโs this woman for being too naive. With her limited intelligence? She was practically begging to be exploited,โ Hayden sneered. โWell, youโre not wrong. Look at her, pitifully soaked; I bet she was dumped by your car friend Kieran, wouldnโt you say?โ Janessa giggled. Hayden continued, shaking his head, โThat woman was bound to meet this end. How could she ever match up to Kieran? I once thought I could use her, but that proved futile. If I were Kieran, I would have gotten rid of her long ago.โ Janessa nearly choked with laughter.
Then, Janessaโs expression turned serious. โPerhaps,โ she mused, โthereโs still one last way we can use this woman.โ Hayden looked puzzled. โAnd how might that be?โ Janessa smiled cunningly. โJust wait and see.โ She descended the stairs towards Eunice. โHey, is that you, Eunice? What in the world happened to you?โ she asked with feigned concern. โWhy would you leave your house without an umbrella, getting yourself all soaked? Wouldnโt people laugh at you like this?โ she teased.
Euniceโs retort was sharp. โHuh? What are you talking about?โ Janessa feigned innocence. โEunice, Iโm just worried about you,โ she said. Eunice scoffed. โNone of you are saints! Each one of you treats me like a toy! Do you think I canโt see through your schemes? Now that Iโm of no use, your true nature shows, shoving me aside like trash! You, Hayden, even Kieran, none of you are decent people!โ
Janessa laughed inwardly. I never pretended we were saints, itโs your often naivety, yet here you are, causing a scene! Outwardly, she softened her expression. โEunice, I still donโt know exactly whatโs transpired. Tell me about it. If Iโm at fault, then blame me, okay?โ
Overwhelmed, Eunice sobbed uncontrollably. The memory of Kieranโs actions at the hotel surfaced. โKieranโฆ. He dumped me. What did I do wrong? He promised heโd love me forever. He liedโฆ he lied to meโฆโ Her voice broke with the pain of betrayal. Janessa chuckled quietly. Just as I thought, Kieran dumped this woman. Makes sense. Which man wants to spend his life with a fool? She kept these thoughts to herself, maintaining a gentle facade. โEunice, if youโre projecting your anger onto me, then Iโd be wrongly accused indeed.โ
โYouโre wrongly accused?โ Euniceโs tear-filled eyes were accusatory. โArenโt you and Kieran in this together?โ Janessa responded loudly, distancing herself from blame. โThis entire situation is due to Kieranโs heartless betrayal. You canโt blame me for his actions. Besides, Iโm a woman too; I totally understand how you feel, and thatโs why I came over to comfort you,โ she said.
โOh, really?โ Eunice retorted skeptically. โThen why donโt you explain why Kieran suddenly treated me this way? What did I lack?โ she demanded. โI agreed to give him half of my companyโs shares; I truly wanted to spend my life with him. But why did he deceive me like this? Does he find joy in deceiving me? Was it amusing to him?โ Her voice grew louder with each question.
As the old saying goes, โThe depth of oneโs hatred for someone often reflects the intensity of their previous love for them.โ Euniceโs distress stemmed from her profound love for Kieran.
Euniceโs expression flickered with confusion at the mention of Madelyn. Janessa laughed softly, elaborating, โIโm guessing Kieran broke up with you because he was disappointed over the incident at the pharmaceutical manufacturing factory, right?โ Eunice nodded in confirmation. โWhy donโt you consider why Kieran would be disappointed with you?โ Janessa laughed again, her eyes twinkling. โWouldnโt you and Kieran have avoided todayโs mess if it hadnโt been for that despicable Madelyn meddling in your plans?โ
Euniceโs gaze turned distant, shifting the blame onto Madelyn. Indeed, if it werenโt for that lowlife Madelyn always interfering, how could I have ended up in such a predicament? If not for her, I wouldnโt have been kicked out of the house by Dad again!
