Chapter 372: Show No Mercy
Eunice was merely a pawn. Her intelligence was pitiful; she even gave away half the company shares. Wouldn't that make her easier to manage? By the time Janessa controlled Thornton Corporation, Eunice was discarded. The crucial task was ruining Madelyn; everything else would follow.
โSo, you know what to do, right?โ
Janessa glanced at Javier. He was accustomed to being a tool, and his demeanor remained composed.
โRest assured, Ms. Sherritt, Iโve got this handled.โ
He left.
After morning class, Madelyn bought food and visited the hospital. Entering, she saw the patient's wife tending to him. Her movements were gentle, wifely. Madelyn smiled and approached quietly.
โIs he feeling any better?โ she asked softly.
The wife shook her head. โNo. The doctor said the explosion affected his nervous system. Although his body functions normally, regaining consciousness may take a while.โ
Madelyn frowned. The truth would remain buried, and public suspicion would linger. Prolonged uncertainty would impact the company. Knowing she couldn't rush things, Madelyn remained calm and gave the wife her prepared lunch.
โYouโve been here all day and night, caring for your child. You must be exhausted. Eat something.โ
The wife, surprised by the offer, softened.
Madelyn smiled. โItโs the least I can do. Your husbandโs accident was due to our companyโs project. Iโm grateful youโre not angry.โ
The wife laughed. She moved to her child's bed, gently nudging him awake.
โSweetie, wake up, itโs time to eat.โ
The child, rubbing his sleepy eyes, looked adorable. The wife fed him, chatting with Madelyn. The atmosphere eased.
Suddenly, they heard a faint murmur.
โWaterโฆโ
The man, eyes closed, twitched his lips. His voice was faint, but audible. Their eyes widened, and they moved closer.
โIโll get the doctor!โ Madelyn exclaimed, rushing out.
By the time she returned, the man was motionless.
โWhatโs going on?โ the doctor asked calmly.
โJust now, my husband responded; he wanted water, but stopped after two seconds,โ the wife sighed.
The doctor laughed. โDonโt worry. Thatโs a sign of improvement.โ
โReally?โ The wifeโs face brightened.
Madelyn felt a thrill.
The doctor remained composed. โYes, his condition is severe. The psychological damage is far greater than his physical injuries. I estimated he wouldn't recover for at least half a month. But now that heโs regaining consciousness, the situationโs changed.โ
The wifeโs demeanor transformed.
โSo, whatโs the situation now? Will he recover soon?โ she asked hopefully.
The doctor nodded. โYes, he should regain full consciousness in a few days. However, his physical injuries will take longer.โ
โThatโs wonderful!โ
The wife's face lit up with joy, speechless with elation.
Madelyn smiled. โIt seems you can finally sleep.โ
The wife nodded. โYes, Iโve been uneasy and havenโt slept much. My dark circles are terrible.โ Her gloom lifted. โBut I think Iโll sleep well tonight.โ
Madelyn laughed. It seemed the heavens favored her. The patient's unexpectedly rapid recovery felt like divine intervention. She couldnโt wait to tell Sebastian. His mood lifted seeing her joy.
โIโll just sit back and see how things unfold.โ
Twilight deepened into evening. The cityโs night view was stunning. In a hospital room, a man slept, an oxygen mask on his face. The silence was eerie. The door opened quietly. Black leather shoes entered. Sharp eyes and eyebrows were visible above a mask. The man crept to the patient's side, a malevolent glint in his eyes. He raised his hands, ruthlessly removing the oxygen mask. Guilt-stricken, he fled.
The patient, unable to breathe without the mask, initially showed no reaction. Then, his breathing quickened, escalating into full-body shaking and labored breaths. He convulsed and collapsed, his heart flatlining.
