Chapter 371: Finish Him Off
โBack then, she committed so many heinous acts, then suddenly pretended to be kind-hearted, wanting to return. I knew she harbored evil intentions, and it seems I was right; she indeed had no good intentions! Had I known it would turn out like this, I should have vehemently dissuaded Father from letting her come back,โ Madelyn said, frustrated. Being angry, however, was pointless.
โSo, are you planning to tell Father about this?โ Sebastian asked casually.
โNo,โ Madelyn replied, shaking her head thoughtfully. โLetโs not inform Father for now. The evidence we have is scant, hardly enough to prove Euniceโs guilt. When the time comes, Eunice will undoubtedly find various ways and excuses to evade responsibility.โ Madelyn was intimately familiar with Eunice's character. It was better to bide her time and act when the opportunity arose, rather than inadvertently alerting the enemy.
โOnce I have gathered enough evidence, itโs not too late to take Eunice down,โ she continued.
โSo, whatโs your next move?โ Sebastian asked again.
In reality, Sebastian was fully capable of assisting, but he had no intention of intervening. The incident offered an ideal opportunity to assess Madelynโs progress. He was eager to see how much she had grown since her lessons.
Madelyn was deep in thought, unconsciously moistening her dry lips with her tongue, turning them a vibrant shade of red. Sebastian found himself inexplicably parched and looked away.
Madelyn pondered a moment before saying, โNo rush. Eunice surely doesnโt know yet that weโve already uncovered her secrets, so letโs not inadvertently alert her. The best course of action is to wait for the injured employee to regain consciousness. Once heโs awake, he can provide his testimony. It will be easier to sort things out then.โ
Her analysis was quite reasonable and logical. A subtle smile crept onto Sebastianโs mouth. Madelyn had improved significantly. He decided to leave the matter in her capable hands.
Sebastian said little more, turning to wash up. Madelyn lay on the bed and fell into a deep sleep within minutes. Exhaustion had clearly overtaken her; she was even snoring faintly. The blanket's warmth caused a gradual flush to spread across her face. She looked like a chubby little pig, all pink and plump. Sebastian watched lovingly, a knowing smile curving his lips. He tenderly tucked her under the covers, then climbed into bed, turning off the light. As he drifted off, his hand drew Madelynโs warm body into his embrace. She seemed to sense something, murmuring in her sleep before drifting into a deep slumber. With a faint smile, Sebastian felt an overwhelming sense of peace and fell asleep. They had a good night's sleep.
Early the following morning, Janessa was seated on the couch at Ingram Manor, listening to her subordinateโs report. After hearing some reports, Janessa asked, โSo, whatโs the update on Madelynโs side?โ
That despicable woman doesnโt stay still. Even after the incident, she remains unflustered and has the audacity to investigate me.
At that moment, Javier schooled his expression. โAs for Madelynโs side, they are still actively investigating this matter. However, it doesnโt seem like they are suspecting us.โ
โOh,โ Janessa tilted her head. โAre you saying she has no idea that this incident is connected to us?โ
โYes,โ Javier nodded. โRight now, Madelyn firmly believes her stepsister is responsible. Sheโs targeting Eunice.โ
โHahaha, this is perfect! That foolish woman truly didnโt let me down!โ Janessa laughed, disregarding her image. โI got close to Eunice, hoping she would prove useful. Unexpectedly, the drama between Madelyn and Eunice never seems to end. Given their rivalry, why should I bother getting involved? Letโs just sit back and watch, reaping the benefits of their conflict.โ
Janessa felt smug. How incredibly wise she was to have won over Eunice. Yet, her subordinate chimed in, โMs. Sherritt, I think it might be best not to celebrate too early.โ
โWhatโs wrong?โ Janessa asked irritably.
โAlthough Madelyn seems to be targeting Eunice, she hasnโt made any overt moves; sheโs biding her time. If Iโm not mistaken, sheโs likely waiting for the injured man to wake up and provide evidence. If he does, Madelyn will hold Eunice accountable.โ
Javier paused. โMs. Sherritt, do you truly believe Eunice wonโt betray you?โ
Janessaโs heart jolted. Javier was right. Eunice was suspicious and not a fool. What if she betrayed Janessa at a crucial moment? The incident had negatively impacted Madelyn and the Thornton Corporation's reputation. There were misgivings about Madelyn's capabilities. If the matter were thoroughly investigated, wouldn't Janessa's efforts be in vain? Madelyn would turn things around, conveniently incriminating Eunice. No! Janessa wouldn't let that happen. Since Madelyn had fallen, why not throw a huge rock at her and sink her?
A sinister smile appeared on Janessaโs lips. โSince sheโs investigating that employee, how about we devise a plan to get rid of him?โ
โMs. Sherritt!โ Javier gasped, taken aback.
Janessa laughed. โDonโt you think itโs a wonderful suggestion? I heard the injured employee is at deathโs door. If he dies, the Thornton family will undoubtedly face a lawsuit and lose public affection. Then weโll put more pressure on them, pushing them into extreme stress. Will it still be difficult to take over them then?โ
Janessa laughed confidently and maliciously.
