Chapter 62: Yvette Can’t Live Without Me

I stood at the side and listened until Yvette hung up. My eyes were full of curiosity. “What’s going on with Randall? Are you going to meet him now?”

She glanced at me, noticing my anxiety. A stern look formed on her face as she addressed Oliver. “Take him back to the hotel,” she said.

“Hey, wait a minute!” I quickly grabbed her arm; anticipation filled my face. “Can I come with you? I promise not to mess around. I can probably help if something goes wrong. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if this was the trip where she’d started liking Randall, but it might be. This could be a golden opportunity. I was determined to capture evidence of her infidelity.”

Yvette forcefully shook my hand off. Her voice was cold as she said, “Stop it. Take Oliver back to the hotel and don’t linger around.”

Then, she walked away without looking back. Her footsteps were hurried and almost frantic. I had no idea what had gone wrong.

Oliver stepped in front of me. He adjusted his pill-rimmed glasses and smiled politely.

“Mr. Yates, we should head to the hotel. This place is isolated, and it would be dangerous to linger here if you’re unfamiliar with the area. You might get lost.”

Seeing that Yvette had left, I gave up and headed to the hotel to catch up with Oliver.

Perhaps sensing my unease, he attempted to explain. “Don’t worry, Mr. Yates. Nothing is going on between Ms. Froning and Mr. Caldwell. I informed him of our itinerary, and they’ve even called to welcome her.”

From Yvette’s expression. It didn’t seem like a simple welcome. She’d rushed off to see Randall, so it must have been serious.

I fiddled with my phone absentmindedly and glanced around. A smirk crept onto my lips. “Don’t say anything. Why are you so flustered?”

Oliver seemed genuinely surprised that I wasn’t angry. “Mr. Yates, are you not upset that Ms. Jenning is meeting Mr. Caldwell?”

“Why should I be?” I asked in return. Such situations often happened in my past life. I’d be devastated and heartbroken.

But this time, I couldn’t be happier if they met frequently. That would make capturing evidence of her infidelity easier.

Oliver maintained his calm demeanor, assuming I truly didn’t care. He opened his mouth as if to speak but stopped himself.

“Mr. Yates, you’ve changed so much. I noticed it earlier, but it’s more obvious now. You used to get upset if Ms. Vater had a male secretary, and you’d investigate their background.”

“Well, I’m older, of course. Three decades older than her.”

I remained still, my expression unchanging. I grimaced inwardly as I recalled the insecure version of myself in my past life. “Let’s not talk about that since everything’s…”

He changed tack and quickly shifted to praising Yvette. “Don’t worry, Mr. Yates. Ms. Jenning has recently changed a lot too. She’s now head over heels for you. I’ve been staring at your picture several times, lost in thought. She clearly has feelings for you. All the effort you’ve put in over the past year is finally paying off.”

I choked when I heard that. Then, I stared at him in shock and blurted out, “What!”

Oliver continued. “All the effort you’ve invested is paying off. Over the past year, you’ve cooked meals for her and constantly…”

“Cheered her up, but cheap down, she can’t live without you.”

I realized she couldn’t live without a personal butler. I'd shown care for her. My love is evident in all these little things.

He asked me, “Wasn’t that…?” I frowned and asked, “You said she stared at my pictures. What pictures? Our wedding pictures? Vertue didn’t have any pictures of me, and the only one we had was a wedding picture Alex had forced us to take. It hangs in my room, and there weren’t any duplicates, so how could she have…”

And he began, “It wasn’t a wedding picture. It looked like a picture of you in a school uniform.”

I scrolled and lowered my phone again. “If you’re going to make up stories, at least make them logical. I wore a school uniform six or seven years ago, and Yvette and I only met…”

… someone else for me. I wasn’t the one she was looking at. I want a man of the students Yvette had been with. He must have had plenty of pictures from his school days, and it’s certainly been him if she’d been staring at someone in a…

Oliver: “Are you sure? Though it was some distance away, I was sure I wasn’t mistaken.”

… with connection. “Depardieu, Miss Jenning likes you. When that secretary tried to take advantage…”

(You, Miss Jenning…)

I stood up at the keyword. My brain raced as I turned to him and pressed, “What did she do??”

Oliver stammered. A secretary had gotten caught; there’d been someone behind the scenes? And could it have been Yvette?

He chuckled awkwardly. “Nothing, but trust me on this one. When Ms. Pringle stays tonight, see for yourself, she…”

…rates you. The sun rose in the west. It said nothing. It must have been him, but to act as if Yvette treated me well, as she had feelings for me, would only happen if the sun rose…

Chapter 12: Voitte Can’t Live Without Me

Quite unexpectedly, I stayed in the Four Seasons Hotel Laimad, where I could see the ocean from a distance. It lifted my spirits.

“Did something come through the heavens?”

“The tied… Why aren’t you asleep yet?”

I watered Lila’s plants, and I told her you wanted abroad. She’s really worried about you, and she reminded you to…

… meet the overseas representatives. There are peace talks, and I was well aware that things could get pretty dangerous out there.

I was more relaxed than in my previous life where I was living alone.

… end the tour. I’m in red, wearing a lampshade…

… please call me, you must. I can’t stay up any longer.

Chapter 61: Yvette’s Home

I smirked, glancing at my phone. Lila still hadn’t replied, so I got up to get Oliver to order dinner.

“I’ve ordered a well-done steak according to your preference, sir. It’ll be here soon. Please wait a moment,” Oliver said.

I couldn’t help but give him a thumbs up.

“You’re very thoughtful.”

Oliver smiled. “You flatter me, sir.”

After a while, he left for the restroom. When the doorbell rang, I got excited, thinking that dinner had arrived. But when I opened the door and saw who it was, my smile froze. At the door stood a man and a woman. The man wore a dirty, torn white shirt as if he’d just been in a fight. His coat, meanwhile, was draped over Yvette’s shoulder…
