Chapter 389

Easton knew Jennifer had deliberately told Natalie about her pregnancy to ruin their relationship. He still hadn’t discovered the man behind Jennifer, and Natalie was also investigating. It was very dangerous, so he wanted to keep Natalie close to protect her.

Easton replied, “You don’t need to worry about why. Just stay home like a good girl. Divorce isn’t an option for me; the only way out is widowhood. I’ll give you a clear explanation later.” He lowered his gaze and took a deep look at Natalie. He said, “And…”

Natalie didn’t want to hear more and went upstairs.

Easton watched her retreating figure with a dark gaze. He continued, “Also, Natalie, you don’t love me. If you truly did, you’d recognize me instantly, knowing who I am and who I’m not.”

Natalie turned around at his words. She looked a bit confused at Easton, who was quietly staring at her. She frowned and asked, “What do you mean by that?”

Easton stayed as he was, not saying a word, just quietly looking at Natalie. There was a hint of pain in his eyes. When Natalie looked closer, he seemed calm, as if his earlier pain never existed.

Easton didn’t answer Natalie. He turned away, walked past her, and went straight upstairs to his study.

Natalie was left confused, wondering what was up with Easton. She frowned. She knew today’s mess was all Jennifer’s fault. She thought, ‘That woman needs to face consequences before she learns her lesson.’

Natalie felt a bit tired and couldn’t manage to get to the office. She had to work on her design sketches from home. She decided to go to Chris’s lab to continue the research on the AI healthcare system after the New Year. As for Easton, she thought, ‘I will just wait until he has had enough of me. Then he’ll naturally let me go!’

Since she couldn’t beat Easton, Natalie decided to lay low and wait for the right opportunity. She thought that since Jennifer was pregnant, her divorce from Easton should be coming soon.

Back in her room, Natalie received a message from Chris.

Chris said: [Natalie, Maris is out of danger now, don’t worry.]

Natalie smiled. With Chris around, she felt at ease. She replied: [Thanks, Chris!]

Chris said: [Silly girl.]

Natalie chuckled; those three words felt so affectionate. She took a deep breath and messaged Maurice, Murray, and Jacob, letting them know everything was alright.

Once all three had responded, she opened her laptop to start working. But as she sat down, all she could think about was what Easton had just said.

She thought, ‘Did Easton say I don’t love him? I have been so in love with him before. What’s his heart made of? Can he not feel anything? And what does that mean when he said I can’t tell him from others?’

Natalie shook her head, thinking Easton was cruel and selfish. Unable to figure it out, she stopped thinking about it and focused on the design sketches. She was determined to make money and surpass Easton.

In the study next door, Easton stood near the window, and he realized something important at that moment. The Simpson family, including Jennifer, kept trying to ruin his relationship with Natalie, leaving it beyond repair. Jennifer’s actions behind the scenes would have gone unnoticed if Natalie hadn’t tried to fight back.

Only then did Easton know Natalie was the one who had saved him. In contrast, Jennifer was aiming to take his life because of another man.

Easton took a deep breath and called Xavier.

Xavier greeted, “Mr. Garcia.”

Easton instructed, “Follow my orders. Announce that Octavian’s new lover, Jennifer, is pregnant, and leak the hotel footage online.” He wasn’t going to take the blame for those disgusting rumors.

Xavier was shocked. He exclaimed, “Oh my gosh, Mr. Garcia, are you okay? How could your dream girl end up pregnant with Octavian’s baby? Should I come over to keep you company if you want to cry?”

Although Xavier seemed worried, there was definitely a hint of glee in his voice.

Easton was already annoyed, and Xavier’s sarcastic tone made him laugh angrily. He said, “Xavier, it looks like you might be looking to get fired. Remember, do not use our company’s PR. Use the subsidiary’s PR so that neither Jennifer nor the Knight family can find out.”

Xavier replied, “Oh, Mr. Garcia, this may be my secure job, but if you don’t want me, that’s fine. I’ve got plenty of other options.” He laughed joyfully and then hung up.

In a burst of anger, Easton threw his phone onto the couch, where it bounced onto the floor but miraculously didn’t get a single scratch.

Feeling agitated, he walked over to his office chair and sat down quietly, lost in thought. He was upset because, right now, all Natalie wanted was to leave him.

Jennifer was reviewing the year–end reports, and the news of the Lewis family’s bankruptcy had already been made public. She noticed how Easton was standing up for Natalie.

That was when she realized the serious crisis at hand; Easton was genuinely slipping out of her control. She thought, ‘The plan has to be carried out; I shouldn’t have hesitated earlier.’

She was about to call Easton when she saw hashtags: [Octavian and Jennifer are spotted entering and exiting a hotel late at night. Is Jennifer pregnant?], [Wedding bells will be soon for Jennifer and Octavian].

Jennifer’s eyes widened with fear. A series of trending topics nearly caused her to faint. There were also records of her hospital visits.

Jennifer was planning, just like she discussed with Camellia before, to use Natalie’s reputation to get an abortion and then ruin Natalie. She was planning to do it tomorrow, but then some sudden news online hit her hard.

Pregnant and stressed, Jennifer felt everything go black. She knew the movie she worked so hard on was ruined. Her eyes were full of darkness as she wondered who had schemed against her like this. Was it Natalie?

But Natalie didn’t know anything about her and Octavian’s affair.

The cold wind howled outside, but Jennifer’s heart felt even colder than the icy world beyond the window. She thought, ‘How did I end up at this point?’

Her phone rang. When she saw it was Octavian, she quickly picked it up.

She yelled angrily, “Octavian, how did such news end up online? Didn’t you say you’d take care of everything? How did someone still manage to capture it? Are you trying to ruin me?”

Octavian initially found Jennifer attractive and thought he’d have some fun with her. But he never expected to fall into her trap. He didn’t expect that once, without using protection, Jennifer would end up pregnant.
