Chapter 387
Jennifer relaxed upon hearing this. With Davian out and his resentment even deeper, heโd only drag Natalie into a place of no return.
Natalie had just been taken to the police station when Murray and Emma arrived with a video. They braved the wind and snow to get to the station. They provided evidence, and Natalie was released after giving her statement.
Marisโs daughter, Sofia, stood at the door. Seeing Natalie coming out, she was angry. She said, โNatalie, do you think youโre safe now that youโre out? Whereโs my mom? Youโd better be honest.โ
Natalie looked at Sofiaโs face, which was very much like Marisโs, her eyes reddened with anger. She looked at Sofia deeply and said, โMs. Wayne, why would I want to kill your mom? Did she reveal my secrets? Iโm a victim too. What your mom exposed has nothing to do with me. Instead of suspecting me, you should suspect your dad and Camellia. After your mom exposed their affairโฆโ
Sofia coldly interrupted, โCamellia has always been nice to me. My mom is quick-tempered, never patient, and always critical of me. Sheโs not like Camellia, who indulges me in everything. When I want ice cream, Camellia buys it for me. When I want to go to a bar, she takes me. When I want to try smoking, Camellia joins me. But what about my mom? All she does is push me to study and grow. I donโt want any of it. Our familyโs wealthy, so why should I go through all that trouble? Camellia is nice to me. Whenever I argue with my mom, she comforts me, saying my mom has a diva personality and I should put up with it for a while. She advises me not to sink to my momโs level. Honestly, I think my dad is better matched with Camellia. At least she lets me live my life freely. But my mom, sheโs just driving me to the edge.โ Sofia was fuming with anger.
Natalieโs mind was blown by what Sofia just said. She thought, So, in her opinion, Camellia is actually leading her astray for her own good. And Maris is harming her by pushing her to succeed. Thatโs insane.
Emma also gave Sofia a peculiar look. She couldnโt hold back and advised Sofia, โMs. Wayne, your mom is truly helping you. That other woman is leading you astray. If your mom doesnโt let you eat ice cream, something might be wrong with your health. Your mom wouldnโt deny you ice cream for no reason. Not letting you go to the bars is because staying out all night could take a toll on you. Your mom pushes you to study so youโll grow and become a better version of yourself. Only when youโre the best version of you can you truly love others. Youโre still youngโฆโ
โShut up, you old hag! Mind your own business,โ Sofia interrupted Emma angrily. She flicked her hands and stormed off, quickly vanishing into the blizzard. Sofia hoped Maris would never come back so she could live happily ever after with Camellia and Colin.
Natalie watched Sofiaโs retreating figure and shook her head. She said, โMrs. Spencer, donโt be upset. Itโs hard to persuade someone determined to do the wrong thing.โ
Emma wasnโt upset. She laughed and patted Natalieโs hand as she said, โNatalie, Iโm just an old woman. It doesnโt matter if people call me names. I think this young girl still has a future. Itโs a shame.โ
Natalie gave a faint smile and said, โMrs. Spencer, thereโs nothing to feel sorry about. Everyone picks their path. If sheโs stubborn, no advice will get through to her. Sheโs like a moth drawn to a flame.โ
Emma thought of Murray, who had become mature and steady. She smiled with reassurance and said, โMurray and Ms. Wayne were quite similar before. But seeing how much heโs grown in just a few months, itโs all thanks to you.โ
Natalie wouldnโt dare take credit. She smiled gently and glanced at Murray. She said, โMrs. Spencer, itโs all Murrayโs own hard work.โ
Murray suddenly looked at Natalie with deep affection.
Natalie was slightly surprised. She couldnโt understand the depth of Murrayโs feelings and turned away from his intense gaze.
Noticing Natalieโs avoiding gaze, Murrayโs eyes darkened slightly. He said, โNatalie, itโs all thanks to you. If I hadnโt met you, Iโd probably have been a wreck by now.โ
Natalie smiled and said, โLetโs head back first; thereโs going to be a big snowstorm today, so itโll be really cold.โ
โAlright, letโs get home,โ Emma said. Then, she thought for a moment and asked, โNatalie, itโs just a month and a half until the New Year. Where are you planning to celebrate this year?โ
Natalie thought for a moment and replied, โMy brothers are abroad this year and probably wonโt come back for the New Year. My grandpa is traveling, so he likely wonโt be back either. Iโll decide when the time comes.โ
With a month and a half to go, she wasnโt worried about being alone for the New Year. She had Luna and Carl to celebrate with.
โAlright. If your grandpa doesnโt make it home by then, you can come to my house for the New Year,โ Emma invited sincerely.
Natalie nodded with a smile. She said, โAlright! Weโll talk about it later. Letโs get in the car now; itโs freezing outside.โ
Only then did Emma get in the car.
Murray beamed with joy. He said, โGrandma, let the driver take you home first. Iโll take Natalie back.โ
Emma smiled kindly; she liked Natalie. Natalieโs kindness and strength reminded her of herself when she was young. She said, โAlright, you take Natalie back. I wouldnโt feel comfortable if she went back alone.โ
After Emmaโs car left, Easton arrived. Accompanying Easton were Maurice and Jacob.
Maurice approached Natalie and asked, โNatalie, are you okay?โ
Natalie shook her head with a smile. She said, โMaurice, Iโm fine. Everythingโs been taken care of.โ
Maurice then felt relieved. Looking at Murray, he thought, โThis guy got here quickly!"
โNatalie, if anything like this happens again, you have to call me. I can find the proof,โ Jacob said. He saw the news and rushed over quickly.
Natalie knew Jacob had already entered the lab. The professor she introduced liked Jacob; Jacob was truly exceptional.
She said, โJacob, youโre in the middle of a development phase now, so donโt worry about these minor things. Focus on your research.โ
Jacob smiled. Seeing Natalieโs tired face, his heart ached. He said โNatalie, this isnโt a minor issue. Theyโre plotting against you, but with me here, no one can harm you.โ His eyes were filled with unmistakable, blatant hostility.
Natalie smiled, thinking that helping Jacob hadnโt been in vain.
Surrounded by a few handsome guys, Natalieโs smile was bright and captivating. Suddenly she noticed Easton. She thought, โWhat is he doing here?โ
Seeing the three guys in front of him, Easton realized that whenever Natalie was in trouble, she never needed him. Natalie wasnโt the same person she used to be, and he was not the only one she needed anymore.
Remembering Jennifer said she was having Eastonโs child, Natalieโs face turned cold. She said, โEaston, Iโll see you at the courthouse tomorrow morning at nine.โ
