Chapter 38
Eastonโs expression turned gloomy at Natalieโs words. โNatalie, is getting a divorce all youโve been thinking about?โ
Natalieโs voice was lively with a barely contained excitement. โYouโre the one whoโs been pushing for a divorce, right? Itโs Monday, and the courthouse is open. If youโre ready to file, Iโm ready to get up and go.โ
He sounded annoyed. โWhereโs my silver tie? The one you put away.โ
Natalie glanced at her phone, confirming it was Easton calling. โYouโve got to be kidding me. Youโre calling your ex-wife about a tie? Ask Jennifer; sheโs always in your space. Unless itโs about the divorce, donโt call me again.โ
With that, she ended the call, annoyed by the early morning interruption, and flung her phone away, wishing to return to sleep. But her phone rang again. Thinking it was Easton, she snapped upon answering, โWhat is it now?โ
A hearty chuckle resonated through the phone, and Natalie knew it was Maurice.
โNatalie, are you okay? Did I disturb your sleep?โ His calming baritone immediately eased her irritation.
Hearing Mauriceโs voice, Natalie sat up, her smile reappearing. โMr. Chambers, no worries at all. How can I assist you?โ
โLast night you mentioned youโre multilingual. Do you know Ardonian? I need a translator tomorrow; my partners are from Ardonia.โ His soothing tone sent a thrill through her, and she was keen to help.
In a previous life, their encounters had been few, but now, thanks to her grandfather, they were potential soulmates.
โAbsolutely, Mr. Chambers, Iโm fluent in Ardonian. What time should I be there?โ she replied.
Maurice responded, โSix in the afternoon. Iโll pick you up.โ
Natalie declined, โThatโs not necessary. Just text me the address, and Iโll manage to get there.โ
Maurice agreed, โAlright, Natalie. Iโll see you at the entrance.โ
After ending her call with Maurice and saving the address he sent, Natalie got ready and went for her morning workout. In recent years, she had been nursing her injuries from rescuing Easton.
Following her workout, Natalie came home, took a shower, and emerged feeling refreshed and full of energy.
Descending the stairs, she found the house quiet, but the butler, Peter, had the staff preparing breakfast.
Peter greeted her with a smile, โMs. Shawn, breakfast is ready, but Ms. Kline and Mr. Shawn are still resting.โ
โHere I am.โ Lambertโs cheerful voice echoed as he hurried out of his room, looking chipper.
Natalie went over to support him, โGrandpa, take it easy.โ
โWait, why are you still here, girl? Shouldnโt you be on a date?โ he asked.
Natalie was taken aback. โWho would I be dating at this hour?โ
Lambert gave her a sly look. โMaurice, of course!โ
Natalie felt her grandfather had a soft spot for Mauriceโs type. To avoid Easton in this life, she was considering getting to know Maurice better. โMaybe heโs my knight in shining armor?โ she thought to herself.
Her eyes twinkled with excitement. โGrandpa, Iโve already made plans with him for the afternoon. Iโm going out on a date then.โ
Lambert nodded approvingly. โThatโs my girl. Show some interest in the men you like.โ
With a playful grin, Natalie replied, โSpeaking of interests, Grandpa, the one thing Iโm most interested in is inheriting your wealth.โ
Lambert gave her a playful glare. โYou ungrateful girl, Iโm still very much alive. Why show your greed so openly? Havenโt I already promised you my fortune?โ
