Chapter 38

Eastonโ€™s expression turned gloomy at Natalieโ€™s words. โ€œNatalie, is getting a divorce all youโ€™ve been thinking about?โ€

Natalieโ€™s voice was lively with a barely contained excitement. โ€œYouโ€™re the one whoโ€™s been pushing for a divorce, right? Itโ€™s Monday, and the courthouse is open. If youโ€™re ready to file, Iโ€™m ready to get up and go.โ€

He sounded annoyed. โ€œWhereโ€™s my silver tie? The one you put away.โ€

Natalie glanced at her phone, confirming it was Easton calling. โ€œYouโ€™ve got to be kidding me. Youโ€™re calling your ex-wife about a tie? Ask Jennifer; sheโ€™s always in your space. Unless itโ€™s about the divorce, donโ€™t call me again.โ€

With that, she ended the call, annoyed by the early morning interruption, and flung her phone away, wishing to return to sleep. But her phone rang again. Thinking it was Easton, she snapped upon answering, โ€œWhat is it now?โ€

A hearty chuckle resonated through the phone, and Natalie knew it was Maurice.

โ€œNatalie, are you okay? Did I disturb your sleep?โ€ His calming baritone immediately eased her irritation.

Hearing Mauriceโ€™s voice, Natalie sat up, her smile reappearing. โ€œMr. Chambers, no worries at all. How can I assist you?โ€

โ€œLast night you mentioned youโ€™re multilingual. Do you know Ardonian? I need a translator tomorrow; my partners are from Ardonia.โ€ His soothing tone sent a thrill through her, and she was keen to help.

In a previous life, their encounters had been few, but now, thanks to her grandfather, they were potential soulmates.

โ€œAbsolutely, Mr. Chambers, Iโ€™m fluent in Ardonian. What time should I be there?โ€ she replied.

Maurice responded, โ€œSix in the afternoon. Iโ€™ll pick you up.โ€

Natalie declined, โ€œThatโ€™s not necessary. Just text me the address, and Iโ€™ll manage to get there.โ€

Maurice agreed, โ€œAlright, Natalie. Iโ€™ll see you at the entrance.โ€

After ending her call with Maurice and saving the address he sent, Natalie got ready and went for her morning workout. In recent years, she had been nursing her injuries from rescuing Easton.

Following her workout, Natalie came home, took a shower, and emerged feeling refreshed and full of energy.

Descending the stairs, she found the house quiet, but the butler, Peter, had the staff preparing breakfast.

Peter greeted her with a smile, โ€œMs. Shawn, breakfast is ready, but Ms. Kline and Mr. Shawn are still resting.โ€

โ€œHere I am.โ€ Lambertโ€™s cheerful voice echoed as he hurried out of his room, looking chipper.

Natalie went over to support him, โ€œGrandpa, take it easy.โ€

โ€œWait, why are you still here, girl? Shouldnโ€™t you be on a date?โ€ he asked.

Natalie was taken aback. โ€œWho would I be dating at this hour?โ€

Lambert gave her a sly look. โ€œMaurice, of course!โ€

Natalie felt her grandfather had a soft spot for Mauriceโ€™s type. To avoid Easton in this life, she was considering getting to know Maurice better. โ€˜Maybe heโ€™s my knight in shining armor?โ€™ she thought to herself.

Her eyes twinkled with excitement. โ€œGrandpa, Iโ€™ve already made plans with him for the afternoon. Iโ€™m going out on a date then.โ€

Lambert nodded approvingly. โ€œThatโ€™s my girl. Show some interest in the men you like.โ€

With a playful grin, Natalie replied, โ€œSpeaking of interests, Grandpa, the one thing Iโ€™m most interested in is inheriting your wealth.โ€

Lambert gave her a playful glare. โ€œYou ungrateful girl, Iโ€™m still very much alive. Why show your greed so openly? Havenโ€™t I already promised you my fortune?โ€
