Chapter 304

Oliver looked equally baffled as he stared at the furious Jennifer, unable to find the words to respond.

Jennifer glared at him, her eyes reddened with frustration, her voice sharp. โ€œOliver, say something! Didnโ€™t you tell me you had everything under control?"

Jennifer felt like she was on the verge of a breakdown. Why had all her carefully laid plans been failing one after another?

Oliver lowered his head, guilt written all over his face. He spoke in a low voice, โ€œMs. Simpson, I really did make all the arrangements."

"Could it be that Murray somehow found out he was going to be reported? Maybe thatโ€™s why he switched the suppliers for the materials.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s impossible! This was done in complete secrecy. How could he possibly know?โ€ Jennifer snapped, unwilling to believe that Murray could have foreseen this.

She had only made the arrangements last night.

Not even Everett knew about her plan to strike today. How could Davian have caught wind of it?

Oliver dropped his gaze, thinking hard, trying to pinpoint where things had gone wrong.

Yet no matter how he analyzed it, every step of the plan had been handled discreetly. There was no way there could have been a leak.

And yet, Murray, a brash and arrogant playboy, had proven to be incredibly difficult to deal with.

โ€œMs. Simpson, let me contact Everlast Constructionโ€™s Mr. Garcia," Oliver suggested, his voice tinged with hesitation.

Jennifer raised her hand to stop him. Her expression was icy, her eyes sharp with calculation. โ€œHold off. We canโ€™t alert anyone or risk drawing attention to ourselves.โ€

โ€œIf the Spencer family is being investigated, there will already be eyes on Everlast Construction. Letโ€™s wait. Everett should've picked up his son by now. Once he has, weโ€™ll question him and figure out what went wrong.โ€

โ€œBut Ms. Simpson, weโ€™ve also invested in Everettโ€™s development project. If this blows up, itโ€™s possible all of our investments will go up in smoke,โ€ Oliver said, his tone grave.

She got backfired.

Karma hit way too fast.

Jennifer froze, the realization hitting her hard. She had nearly forgotten that detail.

No. She couldnโ€™t let this spiral out of control.

โ€œThe 70 million dollars for Wendyโ€ฆ donโ€™t transfer it yet. We need to secure our liquidity," Jennifer ordered decisively.

Oliver hesitated before speaking, his voice tight, โ€œMs. Simpson, that money was already wired to her earlier today.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Jenniferโ€™s eyes turned icy and fierce. Then she remembered. She had been in a good mood earlier and had instructed Oliver to send the money to Wendy, hoping to keep her quiet and protect her own reputation.

But now, Jennifer felt the weight of her decision. Secretly transferring 70 million dollars from the companyโ€™s accounts was a risky move. If Wendy decided to retaliate and take legal action against her, Jennifer could face devastating consequences.

Chapter 301

After all, Wendy wasnโ€™t her biological mother. If Wendyโ€™s company went under, this shady transfer would undoubtedly be exposed during an investigation.

"Humph! Itโ€™s only 70 million dollars, and Wendy still had the nerve to press me so hard," Jennifer spat, seething with anger.

But what infuriated her even more was todayโ€™s failure. She couldnโ€™t find a single excuse to justify why her plan had gone awry.

Her icy gaze fixed on the laptop screen, her voice hoarse. โ€œOliver, tell Lucy and the others to proceed with acquiring Wendyโ€™s company."

She wouldnโ€™t let Wendy walk away unscathed.

Jenniferโ€™s expression darkened further, her voice filled with venom. โ€œAnd Natalieโ€ฆ I want her to spend her whole life in misery. No one to care for her, no one to love her.โ€

Oliver furrowed his brow slightly. A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he nodded. โ€œMs. Simpson, Lucy and the team are continuing negotiations today for the acquisition. Iโ€™ll go investigate whatโ€™s going on with Murray and get to the bottom of this."

โ€œFine. Make sure everything is clear so we can put our minds at ease.โ€

Jennifer waved him off tiredly.

Sinking into the sofa, she looked uncharacteristically disheveled. The onceโ€“proud and aloof Jennifer seemed to have lost some of her edge.

Ever since Natalie had woken up at her banquet, everything had started to go wrong.

Things that used to go smoothly for her were now unraveling at every turn.

Easton was always just a beckoning finger away, ready to drop everything and rush to her side.

But that scumbag had cut her off, pulling the 1.5 million dollars funding he had promised.

It was like losing her lifeline. With no other choice, she had to resort to acting to make money.

Meanwhile, Natalie had agreed to mediation, taking a settlement before letting Davian off the hook. As for the assault on an officer, Natalie wasnโ€™t sure how Maxwell had managed to handle that one. When the scandal about Maxwellโ€™s real estate project broke out, Davian had just been released from the police station. After a few days in custody, Davian didnโ€™t look too bad aside from his disheveled hair. He was even in decent spirits.

But the moment his eyes locked onto Natalie, they burned with a ferocity so intense it was almost predatory. Unbothered, Natalie met his gaze and gave him a faint, chilling smile. โ€œMr. Spencer, judging by your look, Iโ€™d think you were ready to devour me whole.โ€

Davian trembled with rage, his glare sharp enough to cut through steel. His entire body radiated unrestrained fury. โ€œNatalie, just you wait. I will end you,โ€ he hissed, the corners of his lips curling into a cruel, bloodthirsty smile.

Natalie responded with an equally cold and merciless smirk.

These minor offenses might only earn him short stints behind bars, but bigger mistakes could cost him a lifetime.

Chapter 304

Arrogance, after all, often leads to selfโ€“destruction.

โ€œMr. Spencer,โ€ Natalie said, her voice eerily steady, every word distinct and hauntingly quiet, โ€œwelcome to the game.โ€

If he didnโ€™t play along, the show wouldnโ€™t be nearly as entertaining.

Her words carried a chilling edge, and the icy aura radiating from her made Davian stiffen. He could feel it โ€“ the unmistakable presence of bloodlust.

โ€œDavian, you seem to enjoy being used as a pawn. I hope next time youโ€™ll be a better one,โ€ Natalie said, her smile playful yet detached, her voice light but laced with an underlying frost.

Her faint smile brought an almost ethereal vibrancy to her features, making her radiant and captivating.

Davian froze. What did she mean by that?

Maxwell, too, was stunned. His gaze toward Natalie now carried a trace of wariness.

โ€œNatalie, what do you mean by that? Are you saying my son has been used as a pawn?โ€ Maxwellโ€™s tone turned somber as his sharp eyes swept over his impulsive son. There was a hint of helplessness in his expression.

He had spent 3 million dollars just to get Natalie to agree to the mediation.

To make matters worse, Maxwell himself had been outmaneuvered by Murray.

That plot of land in the western suburbs... Maxwell had initially acquired it on Murrayโ€™s suggestion, and the paperwork had deliberately been done under his own name.

What a despicable move, he wondered. Maxwell seethed at the memory of Murrayโ€™s cunning, wishing that the overseas accident had finished him off for good.

Natalie caught the flash of murderous intent in Maxwellโ€™s eyes and furrowed her brows slightly.

Everett and his family were truly rotten to the core.

โ€œMr. Spencer,โ€ Natalie said with a sly smile, her tone teasing yet sharp, โ€œyou might want to worry about your real estate project instead. The materials used in your construction were found to be nonโ€“compliant, and now the media has already exposed the issue.โ€

Her mischievous grin, paired with the arch of her brows, carried an air of wickedness, leaving Maxwell visibly shaken. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on?โ€ he stammered, panic creeping into his voice.

โ€œMr. Garcia, bad news! Someone reported the Spencer Group for using nonโ€“compliant materials. Those materials were all stockpiled at Mr. Garciaโ€™s new construction site,โ€ Maxwellโ€™s assistant said as he rushed over.

โ€œTheyโ€™ve all been seized. Construction has been halted for inspection."

Maxwellโ€™s eyes widened in disbelief. This couldnโ€™t be happening. Not to him.

No, he must be so angry at Davian that he was hallucinating. His company couldnโ€™t possibly be in trouble.

After all, heโ€™d triumphed over Murray time and again over the years. Defeat simply wasnโ€™t an option for him.

Looking at his assistantโ€™s frantic expression, Maxwell snapped, his voice cracking with urgency. โ€œThisโ€ฆ this canโ€™t be right. Itโ€™s supposed to be Murrayโ€™s project under fire. How could it be my development?โ€
