Chapter 282
Natalie laughed at his shameless words. โSo what if weโre married? Weโre in the process of a divorce. I was kind enough to make you dinner, yet this is how you repay me?โ
Eastonโs face suddenly darkened, his gaze intense as he looked at her. โNatalie, I said we will never get divorced unless I die.โ
โFine. Youโre going to die anyway, so Iโll wait until youโre gone to marry again. Iโm young. Iโve got time to wait; Iโm not staying with an old man like you.โ
Easton frowned with a glint of cold in his eyes. She actually called him old.
And she actually wished he would die soon.
Natalie didnโt notice Eastonโs darkened expression. She sighed with relief as she glanced down at herself and saw that her clothes were still securely in place.
Easton watched her sigh with relief, feeling a pang of frustration.
He thought, โDo I look like a beast?โ
He said, โNatalie, once you get better, weโll have sex.โ
Natalie stepped back a bit, fear in her eyes, confused by Eastonโs sudden outburst. โNo, please. I beg you. Go do it with Jennifer. Donโt bother me. I remember on our wedding day you said that you could make me Mrs. Garcia, but I wouldnโt have your body and soul. So, please stick to your principles and donโt compromise mine. I wonโt sleep with a man who I donโt love and doesnโt love me. Last night was a mistake. I was medicated and in a deep sleep, but you were fully conscious; your actions really disgusted me.โ
After saying that, Natalie got out of bed to freshen up.
Easton took a deep breath, wondering, โDid I really say something like that? I canโt recall that I said that. How come she remembers it so clearly?โ
He decided to skip work today. Natalieโs bed was soft and inviting, making him want to stay longer, so he lay back down to get more sleep.
It might have been Natalieโs unique scent that helped him fall asleep quickly.
When Natalie finished getting ready, she came out only to find Easton asleep again. Her eyes burned with anger.
Natalie was so angry she wanted to throw a pillow at him.
Then she thought better of it and went downstairs to have breakfast.
She picked up her phone from the bedside table and saw several missed calls.
She knew the calls were from Davianโs family.
She wasnโt in a hurry to call back. It was Davianโs parents who were worried about it.
Peter was in the dining room when she came downstairs. โMs. Shawn, breakfast is ready; the family doctor is here; he can start your IV soon.โ
Natalie smiled. โOkay. Thank you, Peter.โ
โYouโre welcome, Ms. Shawn.โ Peter then went to handle other matters.
She went to the kitchen, had a bowl of oatmeal and a bowl of soup, and then asked the family doctor to start the IV.
As she lay on the couch, she was phoning Murray with one hand and getting an IV drip with the other.
โNatalie, are you feeling better today?โ Murray asked as soon as the call connected.
Natalie chuckled. โYes, Iโm much better, but Iโm still sore all over. Iโm on an IV drip. How is it going with Maxwell?โ
Murrayโs smile was cold and mischievous. โNatalie, Davian got detained, and my uncleโs family is going crazy. They couldnโt find you or reach your phone, so they came to my place first thing this morning.โ
Natalie knew that Maxwell was a tough person, but since he was scheming with Jennifer, Natalie wasnโt going to let him off easily.
She said, โI understand. Iโll wait for the police to call me in.โ
Murrayโs tone was caring. โNatalie, just get some rest. Iโll keep an eye on Maxwell for you; no worries.โ
Natalie felt reassured, her voice full of a smile. โOkay. Thanks, Murray. Howโs it going with the materials?โ
She was really worried about this issue; the Spencer family couldnโt afford any mishaps as they were in this together.
Murray said, โNatalie, things went smoothly with the information youโve offered me. I found that all the materials are problematic and do not comply with national regulations. But since Davian has been arrested, Maxwell and his wife have been focused on him, which has given me the ideal opportunity to handle it. I reported on the material company today, and its boss was arrested. I handed over all the raw materials our company purchased to the authority and had them disposed of, preventing Maxwell from framing us.โ
Natalie breathed a sigh of relief. โLuckily, weโve investigated it beforehand. My thing isnโt urgent; we can take our time with the lawsuits. Iโll keep Maxwell preoccupied, but in the meantime, you need to work hard to clean up your companyโs moles.โ
That was all she could do to help Murray.
Murray had to work hard to protect his familyโs business.
Murray said, โNatalie, youโve been a big help recently. The cost of resolving this crisis is high, but it will be worthwhile to cause Maxwell to suffer a significant loss.โ
Natalie chatted with him for a bit before hanging up.
She put her phone on silent and closed her eyes to rest.
Easton woke up and saw that it was already noon.
He felt sluggish from oversleeping but was surprised to see how late it was now. He never liked sleeping in, but today he had slept until noon.
Easton felt relaxed, his mind clear, experiencing an unprecedented lightness.
His stomach growled. Feeling hungry, he got up to freshen up. As he slipped on his slippers, he waved the window.
At night, he couldnโt see what was outside, but during the day, looking out the large window, he saw a field of crรจme roses already starting to bud.
By December, this place was sure to be stunning.
Easton immediately fell in love with the place; the environment was really nice.
There was a hint of amusement in his eyes; Natalie certainly knew how to enjoy herself.
After washing up, he came downstairs and saw Natalie sitting up from the sofa after her treatment.
The doctor gave a few instructions before leaving.
Natalie stood up, feeling pain in her back.
She frowned, cursing Davian silently for his actions and swearing never to forgive him.
โMs. Shawn, itโs time for lunch,โ Peter called cheerfully from not far away.
โAlright, Peter, Iโm coming,โ she replied.
Natalie slowly made her way to the dining room.
She glanced over and was surprised to see Easton coming down the stairs. She wondered if he had just woken up. Easton was a workaholic, always getting up at seven every morning, having breakfast, and going straight to work.
It was quite unexpected for her that he slept in today at her place.
โNatalie, Iโm starving,โ he said.
Easton moved to stand next to Natalie.
Peter was taken aback to see him. โWโWhat are you doing here?โ
Easton looked indifferent. โIs it strange that I am at my wifeโs house?โ
Peter thought, โThis guy is really shameless; he didnโt even leave last night.โ
Natalie knew Easton was stubborn and bossy. She said, โPeter, you should have lunch too; everythingโs fine here.โ
Peter was still worried. He said, โMs. Shawn, just shout if he bothers you; the bodyguards are right outside.โ
Easton furrowed his brow but didnโt say anything.
Natalie handed Easton a fork, inviting him to join her for lunch.
Midway through the meal, Easton said, โYou donโt like the last villa, so Iโm planning to buy a new one. Where do you prefer?โ
