Chapter 172
Tiana said, โSure! Letโs meet the day after tomorrow. Iโll pick the restaurant. Itโs been forever since we last hung out, and since Zoe isnโt around, there will be just the two of us.โ
Natalie replied, โSounds good. Iโll see you then.โ
After hanging up, Natalie lay down to sleep.
The next day, Natalie woke up early to have a seafood breakfast with her grandfather. She was busy preparing for a fashion show and was determined to make this one a success. After all, she had drifted away from her dreams for the past five years.
Lambert looked at her and said, โNatalie, you look great these days. Went out for some fun, did you? Whatโs the plan for today? I found a few cute guys. Want to go check them out tonight?โ
Natalie choked a bit, laughing but also a bit embarrassed. โGrandpa, really? Can we not talk about that first thing in the morning?โ
โWhy not? Or are you seriously interested in Maurice?โ Lambertโs eyes sparked with excitement.
Natalie sighed. She knew her grandpa must have seen the news from yesterday. She hadnโt been following it closely, but she figured Maurice would handle it. Vanceโs trending search would surely be countered by him.
She replied, โGrandpa, Iโm actually preparing to get divorced. I canโt talk to Mr. Chambers until after Iโm officially single."
Lambert understood.
After breakfast, he was dressed and ready to go out, slightly faster than Natalie.
She shook her head. Her grandpa had been looking for love for years and still hadnโt found the right match. Just how picky could he be?
Later, Natalie changed her clothes and headed to the office.
At Garcia Group, Easton had just arrived at the office when Xavier walked in, saying, โMr. Garcia, Ms. Shawnโs grandpa is here. He wants to see you.โ
Easton suddenly recalled that old man. โBring him up, quickly.โ
Xavier looked at him, thinking, โHeโs about to score points with her grandpa?'
Xavier hurried downstairs to bring Lambert upstairs.
Lambert paid close attention to his appearance when he was out. He was wearing a light blue suit, looking sharp and composed, oozing with an upscale aura.
As he looked at the scale of Eastonโs company, he scoffed. Sure, Easton had some skills, but Lambert didnโt think much of him. His granddaughter deserved better.
When Lambert arrived at Eastonโs office, Easton stood at the door to greet him. โMr. Shawn,โ he said respectfully, albeit quietly.
โPlease, have a seat,โ Xavier said, smiling.
After Lambert sat down, he handed Easton a document. โEaston, Iโll keep it short: this is the divorce agreement. I hope you can sign it.โ
Easton frowned. 'Is the old man here to force me into a divorce?' he wondered.
He confidently took a seat across from Lambert. โMr. Shawn, I donโt understand. Why do you want me to divorce Natalie?โ
Lambert nearly choked on his words. โWhy? Because you donโt deserve her! You should marry someone like Jennifer instead."
โMy Natalie never complains; she just lets you be. You should be grateful! If you keep tormenting her like before, this time I wonโt hold back. Iโll make sure you and the Simpson family pay!"
โIf she hadnโt gone out to save you at 17, falling for you the way she did, I would never have let her marry you."
โShe pulled you out of the fire, and her back was burned badly. Do you have any idea how long she was in the hospital? She wouldโve given her life to save you.โ
He added, โWhen she got back to the Simpson family and recognized you, she agreed to marry you.
โYou almost died and then got into a car accident, but she fought tooth and nail to save you, even forcing me to find herbs on the snow mountain!
โShe tried so hard to help you, and yet you let her down. Now youโre dragging your feet about this divorce. What do youโฆ"
โDonโt even think about two-timing her. Sign the divorce agreement and donโt interfere with Natalieโs chance at happiness. Maurice is a better match for her. Iโve been watching him for three years.โ
Lambert was furious. Easton, on the other hand, stared in shock, his eyes wide.
โGrandpa, youโre saying the one who saved me from the fire was Natalie?โ Eastonโs voice trembled, disbelief etched on his face.
Lambert shot up, his anger boiling over. โEaston, I canโt believe how shameless you are! My granddaughter risked everything to save you."
โShe never wore backless dresses because when the beam was crashing down, she shielded you with her body, getting her back burned in the process. And after being saved, you didnโt even bother to say thank you before disappearing!"
โNow, sign this divorce paper! My granddaughter prefers young, handsome guys, and someone like you is perfect for Jennifer instead!"
With fierce determination, Lambert pulled out the divorce agreement and shoved it towards Easton. No one was going to keep his granddaughter from being happy.
Easton sprang to his feet, almost in a panic. โGrandpa, I wonโt divorce her.โ
Lambertโs face turned red in frustration. โWhatโs the alternative? My granddaughter nearly lost her life for you! What more do you want? Do you want her dead?โ
Before Easton could respond, Lambert pressed on, โLet me tell you, even if you died, my Natalie wouldnโt! All these years, if she hadnโt been thinking about you, do you really think your company would be thriving like it is now?
โIf it werenโt for her, I would have dealt with you and that worthless Simpson family myself a long time ago. Now that sheโs finally ready to leave you, I wonโt let you off the hook. Just sign the damn paper!โ Lambertโs resolve was unshakeable.
But then Eastonโs vision blurred, and just like that, he collapsed.
Lambert stood there, taken aback. โUh, what just happened?โ He glanced over at Xavier, bewildered. โIs your boss really that weak?"
Xavier was confused about what Lambert meant by โweak.โ He didnโt really know if Easton was or wasnโt, but right now, the point was to find the guy who looked just like Easton.
He cautiously replied, โMr. Shawn, I think you might have pushed him a little too hard.โ
Lambert was fuming. โThis is ridiculous! Heโs such a wimp. How can he be this soft? Natalie must be blind to like him. Whatโs the difference between him and a pile of garbage?"
โLook at Maurice! Heโs tall and has that perfect V-shape girls love, with a solid six-pack abs. He walks with confidence.
โEven if a rock fell from the sky, it wouldnโt knock him out. Thatโs the type Natalie likes! Didnโt you see the gossip from last night?โ
Lambert glared at Xavier, who was still holding up Easton. Xavier shook his head, slightly confused.
Lambertโs frustration peaked. โWhat does your head shaking mean?โ
โMr. Shawn, Iโm not really sure what gossip youโre talking about," Xavier said, finding this old man strangely endearing. He might be older, but he was fit and lively, radiating warmth.
โLast night, Natalie and Maurice were all over the news! How could you miss that?โ Lambert grinned. โTheyโre such a perfect match, right? My Natalie is gorgeous, and Maurice is so handsome.
