Chapter 171

As Vance came downstairs, he spotted Jennifer, and his expression softened instantly. “Jennifer, I’m leaving with Khloe. Mom said she doesn’t want me anymore, but don’t worry, I’ll come back to see you.”

Jennifer was taken aback, wondering, “Mom doesn’t want Vance anymore? What’s going on?”

She asked, “Vance, what did Mom say? Why doesn’t she want you? Is it because she doesn’t approve of you being with Khloe? But her attitude just now seemed fine.”

Wendy’s mood had shifted so dramatically.

Vance nodded, his face troubled. He didn’t fully understand what was happening at home or how he could help with the mess at the company. “No, she doesn’t approve. Her favorite future daughter-in-law is Tiana, but I don’t like Tiana. I only like Khloe.

“Mom has always tried to control my life—what I study or whom I marry. It’s all her plan. She doesn’t support me like you and Dad do.

“Mom froze all my cards. I’m leaving everything with Dad to you. I’ll handle the wedding, and then I’ll come take care of him.”

Jennifer was shocked. ‘Why is Wendy so angry to freeze his cards? Is she really that upset, or has she discovered something?’ she thought to herself.

“Vance, if Mom froze your cards, what are you going to do?” Jennifer asked, clearly worried. She couldn’t figure out Wendy’s intentions anymore.

Vance looked just as confused. He didn’t understand why his mom was acting this way either, but he could tell it had something to do with Natalie and Khloe.

He said, “Don’t worry, Jennifer. I still have my entertainment company, and it’s been making money. Mom thinks she can make me give up on Khloe, but I won’t.”

Khloe beamed. Vance was truly in love with her now.

With newfound confidence, Vance took Khloe’s hand and walked away.

Jennifer sat on the couch, deep in thought. Mom’s sudden attitude was shocking, but as long as Vance didn’t give up on Khloe, it would be fine. As long as Vance was tied to Khloe, the family’s third son would be Jennifer’s next target.

A sly smile crept onto Jennifer’s lips. Everything was going according to her plan.

‘But sadly, Murray’s dad has only a minor scrape from that serious car crash. How lucky!’ she complained in her head. Jennifer bit her lip, thinking about what was next. The Wayne family would be easier to deal with than the Spencer family. Colin was very protective of her and had no defenses when it came to her.

As long as she could get close to his study, she could steal plenty of business secrets.

A triumphant smile crossed her face, the smile of victory. “Natalie, you shouldn’t have come back to compete with me. I’ll end up winning, and you’re going to lose completely.”

But Natalie was a designer and a doctor, which made her feel very uneasy. She thought, “How could someone from the countryside be a designer? How could she know medicine?”

It’s impossible to trace the backgrounds of the people who adopted her; they seem so ordinary. If only Dad had been tougher back then and just got rid of her. There wouldn’t be so many problems now.

After Natalie finished getting ready for bed, she lay down.

Just as she settled in, her phone buzzed. It was Tiana. They hadn’t talked in a long time. It looked like Vance really was back.

She sat up to answer the call, smiling as she said, “Hey, Tiana! Long time no see.”

Tiana responded, “Natalie, sorry, I’ve been super busy at my new job. Lots of stuff to learn.”

Natalie replied, “Congrats, Tiana! I saw the financial news about your company. You guys have really been thriving the past couple of years.” She followed the financial news every day.

“Really? Back then, I didn’t realize how hard my parents worked. I’ve been learning from my dad every day this past half-year, and now I’m finally getting the hang of things, though I still have a lot to learn,” said Tiana.

Natalie admired Tiana. She was such a hard worker. But what’s the real reason for her call tonight? Natalie wondered.

“Tiana, are you calling to talk about Vance?” Natalie asked directly.

Tiana hesitated, “Uh, yes. I didn’t really want to get involved with your brother again…”

“Tiana, I’ve cut ties with the Simpson family. He’s not my brother anymore,” Natalie interrupted her.

Tiana understood. “Got it, Natalie. Honestly, it’s probably for the best. That whole family is just too much. I realized it was right for me to let go of Vance. He had no idea how much I cared.

“If I hadn’t let him go, I would’ve just been sad at home every day, and after my dad scolded me once, I finally woke up. A guy isn’t everything to me. I started to become someone others liked, but I wasn’t happy with myself.

“Now, I’ve finally become someone I like, and others have started to like me too. I might be chubby, but I feel so much more confident now.”

Natalie chuckled, “You didn’t call just to brag, did you?”

“What do I have to brag about? I’m actually a bit envious of how pretty you are,” Tiana replied, her voice cheerful. It sounded like she really wasn’t sad about Vance anymore.

After a brief silence, Tiana continued, “Natalie, I got an e-invite from Vance. He and Khloe are getting married on the 26th of next month, and they want me to come to the wedding.

“Your brother… I mean, that jerk Vance! He’s just trying to make me witness his happiness on purpose!”

Natalie felt a pang of hurt at the thought. “Tiana, are you going?”

Tiana said, “Why should I? I just wanted to vent to you. Khloe used to mess with me a lot back in Shagrity. If Vance likes women like that, then they deserve each other. I’m moving on with my life now.”

Natalie looked out the window, smiling a little. “Tiana, I’m glad you see things clearly. Someone like Vance, who’s so arrogant, doesn’t deserve someone as amazing as you.

“How about I set you up with my second eldest brother sometime? He’s super handsome and really sweet.”

“Wow! You actually have more than one brother?” Tiana sounded thrilled.

“Yep! He’s really good-looking. I can arrange for you two to chat.” Natalie thought Tiana and Gordon would hit it off; he tended to go for girls like her.

Tiana’s excitement bubbled over. “Natalie, do you have any pictures of him?”

Chapter 171

Natalie laughed, “I do, but I can’t send you one right now. My brother would totally be mad: He said he’d come back around my birthday, and then I can introduce you.”

“Thanks so much! By the way, do you have time tomorrow night? I want to take you out to eat so we can catch up. I’ve been busy for half a year, and now I finally have some free time,” Tiana said with excitement.

Natalie felt bad, but she had plans to meet with Maurice tomorrow night. She replied, “Tiana, I have plans tomorrow, but how about the day after?”
