Chapter 156

Natalie looked at the boy lying on the hospital bed, already unconscious, with sonic bruises on his face. He was still very young. โ€œChris, how old is your brother?โ€

Chris explained, โ€œHeโ€™s 19 years old, a motorcycle fanatic. Today, he was racing with his rival and got hit, damaging both his legs and nearly losing his life, Natalie, please agree to help me.โ€

Chrisโ€™s voice trembled slightly; he was desperate and regretted not mastering medicine better. โ€œMy aunt only has one son. If heโ€™s disabled, what will she do for the rest of her life?โ€

Natalie saw him about to cry and patted his shoulder. โ€œI can perform the surgery, but Iโ€™m not affiliated with this hospital. He must be transferred to the hospital where I am, and weโ€™ll observe his condition afterward.โ€ Since Chris was a good friend, she would definitely help.

Chris was thrilled. โ€œNatalie, thank you so much! Look, this is his X-ray. I was just about to transfer him to this hospital for treatment. They specialize in orthopedics, and itโ€™s lucky to have found you.โ€

Natalie examined the X-ray and said after a minute, โ€œItโ€™s too serious; he can only have surgery for now. But since heโ€™s your brother, Iโ€™ll treat him attentively. Thereโ€™s hope for him to recover in two years. However, he wonโ€™t be able to ride motorcycles again.โ€

Chris said, โ€œHmph! That brat wonโ€™t be allowed to ride anymore. Iโ€™ve told him before that riding motorcycles is dangerous; you could easily lose your life. But he valued the thrill and speed of riding more than his own life. Now that heโ€™s disabled, he should regret it.โ€

Natalie shook her head, smiling softly. โ€œChris, we both ride motorcycles too, but do you think someone who loves that feeling can easily give it up?โ€

Chris sighed. โ€œLetโ€™s see if he survives this time. I just hope to save his life and his legs; Iโ€™ve already done my best.โ€ He felt exhausted.

Only then did Natalie remember to ask, โ€œChris, when did you return to the country?โ€

Chris smiled brightly. โ€œNatalie, I just got back three days ago. I was planning to call you, and itโ€™s such a coincidence to run into you at the hospital.โ€

Chris was overjoyed; he had a tall and straight posture, exuding a refined aura. His handsome face, bright as sunshine, had clear and bright eyes that reflected a gentle smile, making him seem approachable.

Natalie smiled and said, โ€œThen letโ€™s transfer him to Everwell Hospital.โ€

โ€œGreat, Natalie, thank you!โ€ Chris went to prepare for the transfer.

Just as Natalie was about to leave, Wendy called out to her. โ€œNatalie.โ€

Natalie turned to see Wendyโ€™s tear-streaked face, her lips trembling.

Natalie asked coldly, โ€œWhatโ€™s the matter?โ€

Wendy glanced at the opposite ward. โ€œNatalie, do you know medicine?โ€

Natalie replied curtly, โ€œI know just a bit.โ€

Wendy glanced into the ward, where Jason could also hear her. โ€œNatalie, Jason will always be my child. I know sending him abroad means he might not survive. Please, save him.โ€

Natalie coldly refused, โ€œNo way! If I heal him, those who harmed him wonโ€™t spare me. If I fail, I donโ€™t know how youโ€™ll treat me. Youโ€™ve plotted against me eighty-six times; I remember every single one. So, please, maโ€™am, consult another doctor.โ€ She thought Jason deserved this.

Wendy was shocked. She thought, โ€˜She remembers everything. How have I been as her mother all these years?โ€™

Wendy opened her mouth but couldnโ€™t say a word in the end. She thought, โ€˜Itโ€™s my fault for not realizing it sooner.โ€™

Natalie had left for quite a while, and Wendy was still standing there, crying.

Jason heard her and closed his eyes, feeling conflicted. โ€˜I really was wrong. Natalie hates me to the core.โ€™

Wendy thought, โ€˜We looked down on her for her poor background, but sheโ€™s a designer, a doctor. And Jennifer only pouts, cries, seeks sympathy, and always belittles Natalie. Why didnโ€™t I give Natalie a chance to explain before?โ€™ She took a deep breath, went in, and saw Jasonโ€™s shocked expression.

She said wearily, โ€œJason, I have to send you away today. I canโ€™t guarantee your safety here. I donโ€™t trust the expert your dad found; he wonโ€™t treat you with care.โ€

Jason opened his eyes wide. โ€œMom, heโ€™s dad. He wouldnโ€™t do that to me. Youโ€™ve always been the strict one, not letting me do this or that. Unlike my dad, he always gives me freedom.โ€

Wendy stared at him in disbelief. She thought, โ€˜How can he still not understand at this moment?โ€™

Wendy shouted, โ€œJason, how can you still not understand? Your dad and Jennifer have always wanted your life!โ€

โ€œNo way!โ€ Jason couldnโ€™t believe it; even hearing it firsthand felt unreal.

Wendy asked in pain, โ€œSo all these years, you hated me for being strict? Fine, you want freedom? Go find your freedom then. Iโ€™ve prepared your bank card and your ID; theyโ€™re on the bedside table. I wonโ€™t care about you anymore; youโ€™ll have your freedom.โ€ With that, Wendy left.

Jason was stunned, staring blankly at his mom as she walked away.

โ€œAhโ€ฆโ€ He cradled his head and cried uncontrollably, unable to accept the reality. The dad he loved the most and the sister he cherished the most turned out to be the ones who wanted to hurt him. They even deceived him out of his shares.

Jasmine was pregnant, and the child wasnโ€™t his. Jennifer had set him up to take the fall. Since his accident, Jasmine hadnโ€™t come to see him even once. She was the goddess he once admired!

He couldnโ€™t understand why his dad and Jennifer would do this to him. Plus, his dad was with other women at Colinโ€™s banquet. They had conspired against Natalie eighty-six times, big and small, and each time, Jennifer was involved. His dad favored Jennifer above all.

โ€˜So, the first to be eliminated was Natalie. Then me, and next, Alexander?โ€™ His mind suddenly cleared. In an instant, his world was filled with pain, his face pale, and beads of sweat rolled down. The pain spread through his veins, and his legs burned with agony.

โ€œNoโ€ฆ itโ€™s not like this. Dad and Jennifer arenโ€™t those kinds of peopleโ€ฆโ€ Jason lay on the bed in despair, unable to accept the truth, just trying to numb himself.

Jason thought of how Natalie could perform surgeries that got patients on their feet within two years. He grabbed the phone and called Wendy, thinking, โ€˜I canโ€™t go abroad; I want to stay and help Mom.โ€™

Wendy was already downstairs at the hospital. She saw Jasonโ€™s call and, despite her anger, answered it. โ€œJason, what do you want now?โ€

Jason replied, โ€œMom, come back. Letโ€™s talk things over, okay?โ€
