Chapter 566

After Aubree finished speaking, a visible struggle flickered across Josephineโ€™s face. Ultimately, fear prevailed. Even if she didnโ€™t care about herself, she had to think of her son.

At worst, it would cost her life, but her son was still so young. She couldnโ€™t afford to mess with the village headโ€™s family.

Josephine pressed her lips into a bitter line and shook her head firmly. She said, โ€œThank you for what you did today, but I hope you wonโ€™t tell anyone about this.โ€

Samuelโ€™s eyebrows shot up, a smug grin spreading across his face as he thought, โ€œThese outsiders really think theyโ€™re something special, huh? Once this blows over, Iโ€™ll make that bitch pay for it in bed. Iโ€™ll make her beg for mercy and then finish her off. As for these outsiders, I would get Dad to teach them a lesson theyโ€™d never forget.โ€

โ€˜How dare that guy actually hit me! Just wait, Iโ€™ll smash his legs to pieces. And that woman? Sheโ€™ll find out exactly what I can do to her.โ€™

Aubree stepped forward and hugged her, comforting, โ€œYou have to stand up on your own. If everyone keeps twisting the truth, then go ahead and call them out. Hit them so hard they wonโ€™t dare to push the blame on you again.โ€

Samuel clung to Aubreeโ€™s shoulders, crying so hard she couldnโ€™t stop. โ€œI canโ€™t do it. As long as Iโ€™m still stuck in this village, thereโ€™s nothing I can do,โ€ she sobbed.

Those words made Aubree realize even more clearly that if the village head of Ridgehaven Town wasnโ€™t dealt with, nothing she wanted to accomplish here would ever work out. And the look on Samuelโ€™s face just now said it allโ€”he knew he could get away with anything.

Josephine was terrified of retaliation from the village headโ€™s family.

Compared to Aubreeโ€™s gentle approach, Bowen was like a force of nature.

He yanked Aubree to his side as he said, โ€œSince sheโ€™s already said that, letโ€™s just act like we never saw anything.โ€

Josephine started shaking even harder.

Aubree looked back at Bowen, her eyes full of disapproval. If even she could see what was happening, Bowen must have realized it even sooner.

Bowen didnโ€™t budge as he said, โ€œSo, are we leaving or what? If she really thinks that giving in will make Samuel let her off, then why should we bother with any of this?โ€

Josephine was left speechless as heโ€™d hit the nail right on the head.

โ€œShe doesnโ€™t even dare say a word to us here. Once weโ€™re gone, if she ends up getting bullied to death, well, thatโ€™s on her. Only an idiot would think that backing down will ever make the bullies stop,โ€ Bowen scoffed.

Josephine trembled, but those words really hit home.

โ€˜If I donโ€™t dare do anything to Samuel now, will the village headโ€™s family really let me go once theyโ€™re gone?โ€™ she questioned herself.

Deep down, she already knew the answer.

Instead of waiting for them to leave and then suffering the village headโ€™s familyโ€™s revenge, she might as well give Samuel a taste of his own medicine right now. Even if they came for her later, at least she wouldnโ€™t go down without a fight.

With that thought, Josephine clenched her fists, suddenly reached out, and pushed Samuel to the ground. She glared between his legs and sent a vicious kick right where it hurt most.

โ€œAh!โ€ Samuel let out a scream that was even more blood-curdling than Josephineโ€™s. It was so shrill it could have shattered the sky and knocked down the walls of Josephineโ€™s house.

Finally, Aubree let out a sigh and thought, โ€˜She should have done this long ago.โ€™

However, none of them realized that the scream had been heard loud and clear by the village head himself, who was hurrying over.

The blond guy with him piped up, โ€œSir, that sounded just like Samuel!โ€

โ€œLetโ€™s move faster!โ€ the village chief snapped.

Soon, a knock sounded at the door, and a booming male voice came from outside, โ€œJosephine, are you home? I need a word with you.โ€

When Josephine heard that voice, her face went pale as she whispered, โ€œDonโ€™t open the door. Itโ€™s the village chief.โ€

Samuel, who was still writhing on the ground, recognized his old manโ€™s voice too.
