Chapter 566
After Aubree finished speaking, a visible struggle flickered across Josephineโs face. Ultimately, fear prevailed. Even if she didnโt care about herself, she had to think of her son.
At worst, it would cost her life, but her son was still so young. She couldnโt afford to mess with the village headโs family.
Josephine pressed her lips into a bitter line and shook her head firmly. She said, โThank you for what you did today, but I hope you wonโt tell anyone about this.โ
Samuelโs eyebrows shot up, a smug grin spreading across his face as he thought, โThese outsiders really think theyโre something special, huh? Once this blows over, Iโll make that bitch pay for it in bed. Iโll make her beg for mercy and then finish her off. As for these outsiders, I would get Dad to teach them a lesson theyโd never forget.โ
โHow dare that guy actually hit me! Just wait, Iโll smash his legs to pieces. And that woman? Sheโll find out exactly what I can do to her.โ
Aubree stepped forward and hugged her, comforting, โYou have to stand up on your own. If everyone keeps twisting the truth, then go ahead and call them out. Hit them so hard they wonโt dare to push the blame on you again.โ
Samuel clung to Aubreeโs shoulders, crying so hard she couldnโt stop. โI canโt do it. As long as Iโm still stuck in this village, thereโs nothing I can do,โ she sobbed.
Those words made Aubree realize even more clearly that if the village head of Ridgehaven Town wasnโt dealt with, nothing she wanted to accomplish here would ever work out. And the look on Samuelโs face just now said it allโhe knew he could get away with anything.
Josephine was terrified of retaliation from the village headโs family.
Compared to Aubreeโs gentle approach, Bowen was like a force of nature.
He yanked Aubree to his side as he said, โSince sheโs already said that, letโs just act like we never saw anything.โ
Josephine started shaking even harder.
Aubree looked back at Bowen, her eyes full of disapproval. If even she could see what was happening, Bowen must have realized it even sooner.
Bowen didnโt budge as he said, โSo, are we leaving or what? If she really thinks that giving in will make Samuel let her off, then why should we bother with any of this?โ
Josephine was left speechless as heโd hit the nail right on the head.
โShe doesnโt even dare say a word to us here. Once weโre gone, if she ends up getting bullied to death, well, thatโs on her. Only an idiot would think that backing down will ever make the bullies stop,โ Bowen scoffed.
Josephine trembled, but those words really hit home.
โIf I donโt dare do anything to Samuel now, will the village headโs family really let me go once theyโre gone?โ she questioned herself.
Deep down, she already knew the answer.
Instead of waiting for them to leave and then suffering the village headโs familyโs revenge, she might as well give Samuel a taste of his own medicine right now. Even if they came for her later, at least she wouldnโt go down without a fight.
With that thought, Josephine clenched her fists, suddenly reached out, and pushed Samuel to the ground. She glared between his legs and sent a vicious kick right where it hurt most.
โAh!โ Samuel let out a scream that was even more blood-curdling than Josephineโs. It was so shrill it could have shattered the sky and knocked down the walls of Josephineโs house.
Finally, Aubree let out a sigh and thought, โShe should have done this long ago.โ
However, none of them realized that the scream had been heard loud and clear by the village head himself, who was hurrying over.
The blond guy with him piped up, โSir, that sounded just like Samuel!โ
โLetโs move faster!โ the village chief snapped.
Soon, a knock sounded at the door, and a booming male voice came from outside, โJosephine, are you home? I need a word with you.โ
When Josephine heard that voice, her face went pale as she whispered, โDonโt open the door. Itโs the village chief.โ
Samuel, who was still writhing on the ground, recognized his old manโs voice too.
