Chapter 565

If word of this got out and Mr. Molinaโ€™s family refused to let Millie marry me, it would drive a wedge between the two families, and that would totally mess up Dadโ€™s big plans.

Aubree snorted in response. โ€œOh? So, all this is just about you being embarrassed? Is it really that big of a deal?"

โ€œSo itโ€™s fine for you to let the whole village gossip about Josephine for days, but the moment we make you lose a little face, you start throwing a fit? If you couldnโ€™t handle it, maybe you shouldnโ€™t have bullied people in the first place.โ€

Aubree looked at him with utter disdain, making it clear she was standing up for Josephine.

Meanwhile, Bowen stood there with a look that said, โ€œIโ€™m just following her lead.โ€

Samuel was really starting to panic now as he uttered, โ€œYou two outsiders donโ€™t know anything! My dad is planning to collaborate with Mr. Molina on a major project. Do you really think my family would let me marry someone as dumb and ugly as Millie if it wasnโ€™t for thatโ€ฆโ€

He suddenly stopped mid-sentence, only now realizing heโ€™d let something slip.

His father had specifically warned him not to breathe a word about this to anyone.

Aubreeโ€™s eyes darkened as she thought, โ€˜So, there really was something fishy going on here. Seriously? With the way Samuel is, how dare he look down on Millie? Millie isnโ€™t ugly at all, and sheโ€™s actually pretty cute. Maybe sheโ€™s a little naive because her family spoils her, but to call her dumb? Sheโ€™s not even close.

โ€˜Honestly, Samuel is the real โ€œdumb and uglyโ€ one here. He did something this stupid and spilled everything after just a few words.

โ€˜But for now, dealing with Samuel is the most important thing. As for the rest, with how spineless Samuel is, thereโ€™d be plenty of chances to get to the bottom of it later.'

โ€œSoโ€ฆ what do you want to do with him?โ€ Aubree asked, turning to Josephine.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, heโ€™ll get the punishment he deserves. However, this depends on how you want to handle this; itโ€™s your call,โ€ she assured.

Aubree used to worry about whether the village chief would seek revenge against them. However, now that she was aware he had a secret he couldnโ€™t let anyone discover, her concerns diminished. The two individuals most strongly opposed to the redevelopment were Pontus, who opposed it for the sake of his descendants, and the village chief. She wondered, โ€˜But what was the chief after?

โ€˜For something like this, the village chief had no reason to refuse, let alone put up a fight.

There had to be a connection between the two.

Josephine stared coldly at Samuel, who was bawling and begging on the floor. But, she thought bitterly, โ€˜What do I want to do with him? I want to rip his mouth to shreds, slice him into a thousand pieces, and cut off that filthy thing of his. I want to drag him to the village entrance and let the whole village see what kind of person this so-called โ€œhonest boyโ€ really is. Butโ€ฆโ€™

Josephine clenched her jaw, hatred burning in her eyes, but all that was left in her gaze was a crushing sense of defeat. โ€œLet him go. Just let him leave,โ€ she said, her voice hollow.

Aubree appeared even more incredulous, while Bowen simply arched an eyebrow, as if he had anticipated this all along.

โ€œAre you sure?โ€ Aubree asked, her voice filled with disbelief.

On the other hand, Samuel let out a sigh of relief as he smugly thought, โ€˜Even if these two outsiders arenโ€™t afraid of my dad, this bitch wouldnโ€™t dare talk back to me.โ€™

Josephineโ€™s face was utterly lifeless as she contemplated, โ€˜As these two people here are willing to stand up for me, the village chief wouldnโ€™t dare say anything for the sake of his reputation. He might even put on an act as a strict father and give Samuel a good scolding.

โ€˜But what about after that?

They were just here to buy fruit, and probably wouldnโ€™t stick around for more than a few days.

โ€œEven if I wanted to move away, itโ€™s not like I could just pack up and leave in a day or two.

โ€˜Once they leave, the village chiefโ€™s family would have the final say in everything that happened to me. What could I possibly do to fight back? What options did I even have, especially as a woman with a young son?โ€™

Aubree tried to comfort her, โ€œDonโ€™t worry, as long as weโ€™re here, weโ€™ve got your back. No oneโ€™s going to hurt you, and you donโ€™t have to be afraid of anything."

Josephine kept her head down and just shook it, stating, โ€œJust let him go.โ€
