Chapter 565
If word of this got out and Mr. Molinaโs family refused to let Millie marry me, it would drive a wedge between the two families, and that would totally mess up Dadโs big plans.
Aubree snorted in response. โOh? So, all this is just about you being embarrassed? Is it really that big of a deal?"
โSo itโs fine for you to let the whole village gossip about Josephine for days, but the moment we make you lose a little face, you start throwing a fit? If you couldnโt handle it, maybe you shouldnโt have bullied people in the first place.โ
Aubree looked at him with utter disdain, making it clear she was standing up for Josephine.
Meanwhile, Bowen stood there with a look that said, โIโm just following her lead.โ
Samuel was really starting to panic now as he uttered, โYou two outsiders donโt know anything! My dad is planning to collaborate with Mr. Molina on a major project. Do you really think my family would let me marry someone as dumb and ugly as Millie if it wasnโt for thatโฆโ
He suddenly stopped mid-sentence, only now realizing heโd let something slip.
His father had specifically warned him not to breathe a word about this to anyone.
Aubreeโs eyes darkened as she thought, โSo, there really was something fishy going on here. Seriously? With the way Samuel is, how dare he look down on Millie? Millie isnโt ugly at all, and sheโs actually pretty cute. Maybe sheโs a little naive because her family spoils her, but to call her dumb? Sheโs not even close.
โHonestly, Samuel is the real โdumb and uglyโ one here. He did something this stupid and spilled everything after just a few words.
โBut for now, dealing with Samuel is the most important thing. As for the rest, with how spineless Samuel is, thereโd be plenty of chances to get to the bottom of it later.'
โSoโฆ what do you want to do with him?โ Aubree asked, turning to Josephine.
โDonโt worry, heโll get the punishment he deserves. However, this depends on how you want to handle this; itโs your call,โ she assured.
Aubree used to worry about whether the village chief would seek revenge against them. However, now that she was aware he had a secret he couldnโt let anyone discover, her concerns diminished. The two individuals most strongly opposed to the redevelopment were Pontus, who opposed it for the sake of his descendants, and the village chief. She wondered, โBut what was the chief after?
โFor something like this, the village chief had no reason to refuse, let alone put up a fight.
There had to be a connection between the two.
Josephine stared coldly at Samuel, who was bawling and begging on the floor. But, she thought bitterly, โWhat do I want to do with him? I want to rip his mouth to shreds, slice him into a thousand pieces, and cut off that filthy thing of his. I want to drag him to the village entrance and let the whole village see what kind of person this so-called โhonest boyโ really is. Butโฆโ
Josephine clenched her jaw, hatred burning in her eyes, but all that was left in her gaze was a crushing sense of defeat. โLet him go. Just let him leave,โ she said, her voice hollow.
Aubree appeared even more incredulous, while Bowen simply arched an eyebrow, as if he had anticipated this all along.
โAre you sure?โ Aubree asked, her voice filled with disbelief.
On the other hand, Samuel let out a sigh of relief as he smugly thought, โEven if these two outsiders arenโt afraid of my dad, this bitch wouldnโt dare talk back to me.โ
Josephineโs face was utterly lifeless as she contemplated, โAs these two people here are willing to stand up for me, the village chief wouldnโt dare say anything for the sake of his reputation. He might even put on an act as a strict father and give Samuel a good scolding.
โBut what about after that?
They were just here to buy fruit, and probably wouldnโt stick around for more than a few days.
โEven if I wanted to move away, itโs not like I could just pack up and leave in a day or two.
โOnce they leave, the village chiefโs family would have the final say in everything that happened to me. What could I possibly do to fight back? What options did I even have, especially as a woman with a young son?โ
Aubree tried to comfort her, โDonโt worry, as long as weโre here, weโve got your back. No oneโs going to hurt you, and you donโt have to be afraid of anything."
Josephine kept her head down and just shook it, stating, โJust let him go.โ
