Chapter 495
The classmate let out a sigh of admiration. โDo all the Turners have some kind of super memory or something? I really wish I could be like them.โ
Aubree laughed, totally agreeing with that. She hadnโt expected Alvin to be this impressive. She felt that the Turner familyโs genes were quite strong.
The person sitting in front, who hadnโt expected Aubree to actually be interested in this kind of gossip, turned around to join the conversation. โAnd thatโs not all, Aubree. Have you heard about Turner Groupโs latest project?โ
โIs it the one for freshmen and sophomores at universities?โ Aubree asked.
โYeah, thatโs the one,โ the classmate said. โRemember that girl from your dormโthe one who was kind of plain? Lilia Fowler? Turner Group hired her.โ
Rithol University was known for being pretty open-minded. Turner Groupโs project first launched as a pilot program there.
The professors were happy to see students get a chance to get their foot in the door at Turner Group, and they actively encouraged everyone to take part in the program.
Liliaโs name hadnโt come up in ages. Aubree had almost forgotten she even existed.
The only thing Aubree really remembered about her was how gutsy Lilia had been at the start of the semester. She actually dared to help others pull some petty tricks on her.
Then again, if Lilia wasnโt that bold, she wouldnโt have set her sights on Bowen the moment she saw him.
Aubree pursed her lips, thinking to herself, โSheโs got quite the ambition.โ
โThatโs her talent,โ Aubree remarked.
The classmate who brought up Lilia knew there had been some drama between her and Aubree.
She was hoping to see some kind of reaction. But when she saw how calm and unfazed Aubree was, she just sighed and lost interest in stirring things up.
Just then, the professor walked in, and the chatter in the room died down.
Lately, Aubree had hardly gone to the office. She focused on her classes at school. Most of the news she heard these days was all about Alvin.
At first, Aubree just thought Alvin was really impressive, but as time went on, she started to feel like something was off.
When she put all the rumors about him together, it almost sounded like Alvin was making a move for power.
Ever since Alvin joined the company, Bowen had his hands even fuller than before.
Aubree recalled their relationship and felt that she was just reading too much into it.
In the blink of an eye, it was already the day of the Mansell family party.
Aubree was all dolled up at the styling studio, just waiting for Bowen to swing by and pick her up so they could head over together.
They werenโt the only ones heading out. Ethan Dillard was driving the car, while another car followed behind, with Samson Dillard at the wheel and Kelvin Malone and Nina Pryor riding with him.
โThe Mansell family party is going to be full of all sorts of people. I just donโt feel comfortable letting you go by yourself,โ Bowen said.
Aubree couldnโt help but laugh. โAre you just pretending Vincent in the other car doesnโt exist?โ
โHeโs a guy. He canโt keep an eye on you every second,โ Bowen replied.
He thought, โBesides, heโs just a secretary. Sure, heโs decent at his job, but honestly, he can barely look after himself, let alone keep Bree safe.โ
โI specifically asked Nina to come along and protect you,โ Bowen said.
โDidnโt Nina leave the Turner family after she turned thirty?โ Aubree asked.
โMan, this guy really is a capitalist. He can even pull someone back in after theyโve left?โ Aubree thought to herself.
Bowen just gave a casual remark. โShe agrees to help me from time to time.โ
Aubree joked, โIf I were Mark, Iโd probably show up waving a gun and demand an explanation.โ
Mark King had worked so hard to win Nina over, only for her to get roped back in by Bowen and put to work. Aubree propped her chin on her hand, shooting Bowen a teasing look.
Bowen just shrugged, totally unconcerned. โThey already think Iโm shameless anyway, so whatโs a little more?โ
After all the teasing and banter, Aubree still kept his warning in mind.
The fact that Bowen had Nina come along as her bodyguard meant there was a real chance something unexpected could go down at the Mansell family party.
Aubree cast her eyes down, thinking, โThe Wilson family has been quiet for so long. Maybe theyโve just been biding their time, waiting for this party."
