Chapter 187
Alicia’s expression grew uglier. She lowered her voice and said, “Elise, I knew you were faking it! You don’t want to divorce Jonathan. You’re just trying to get his attention, aren’t you?”
“So what if I am? What does it have to do with you?”
I tilted my head and cast a casual glance. “You didn’t break up our marriage, and now we’re back together again. Isn’t that what you wanted? That’s what you told Jonathan, right?”
She marched up to me with a clenched jaw and spat out, “Even if you get back together with him, I’ll still be the one that matters most to him! He just hasn’t figured out his feelings for me yet, Elise!”
“Oh?” I raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you say there was only a sibling bond between you two? Now you’re claiming that he hasn’t figured out his feelings for you yet. So, what kind of relationship do you two have? I’m so confused!”
“Elise!” she suddenly shouted, clearly shaken.
I shook my head. She was not worth my time. I pushed past her to leave.
She suddenly called out behind me. “Elise!”
I stopped in my tracks but didn’t look back. Then, I heard her voice, tinged with resentment.
“Just remember this. This sibling bond between Jonathan and me is all thanks to you!”
I raised an eyebrow and turned to look at her in surprise. “So, I’m the one who forced you two into the sibling mold?”
She said nothing as she continued to shoot me with a venomous glare.
I looked away. I couldn’t be bothered to get into a tussle with her.
She was clearly past the point of no return. What else was there for me to say?
Just as I was about to leave the office, Gabrielle caught up to me. “Elise!”
I stopped and turned to look at her. “What is it?”
I tried to act as if everything was fine in front of her.
She looked at me with concern. “I heard about what happened. Is it true that New Voyage is in trouble?”
I frowned. “Did Frederick tell you?”
“No.” She shook her head. “I found out myself.”
She shot me disapproving looks. “You should’ve told me if you were in trouble! Why are you trying to handle everything on your own?”
“This is my problem to handle.”
I realized my tone was a bit harsh after the words left my mouth. Gabrielle looked a little upset, so I quickly added, “I’m sorry. I just don’t want to be a burden.”
“How many times have I told you? Don’t worry about being a burden to me! If you need help with anything, I’ll be there.”
“It’s okay, Gabrielle. Don’t worry about me.”
I cut her off and said, “I still have work to do back at the office. Don’t do anything rash.”
With that, I hailed a cab and left.
Gabrielle stood at the side of the road, her expression hesitant. It seemed she wanted to say something. Her lips parted, but in the end, she didn’t say another word.
When I arrived at the office, I discovered that our original workstations had been shoved aside. I had no idea what project they were working on, but with the constant clamor day after day, it made it impossible for us to get any work done.
We filed complaints, but they all went nowhere.
After all, they had the Millenia Corporation behind them. With Jonathan supporting them, nothing changed even if they were reported to the police.
What made it even more unbearable was that their work hours kept extending to the point we couldn’t work at all. Everyone had to pack up and leave early.
They would still be working whenever I wanted to rest. I was at my limit. All I wanted to do was give Jonathan a piece of my mind.
