Chapter 186

I turned my face away to avoid his questions.

He had strong arms that were typically hidden beneath crisp white shirts. But now, they fully demonstrated his inherent masculinity.

“Can you stop hugging me like that?” I frowned in obvious discomfort. “Don’t you realize how uncomfortable you’re making me?”

But he didn’t let me go. His gaze darkened as it roamed over my face. “I know you said what you said on purpose.”

“What did I say?” For a moment, I forgot what I’d said to him.

“You told me that Frederick was special to you. I know you were lying.”

I scoffed. “So what if I lied? And what if I didn’t? I’ve already made up my mind. No one is going to stop me!”

“Alright.” He suddenly let go. “Go ahead. Let’s see how long you can keep this up.”

I gritted my teeth and glared at him. “Just you wait, Jonathan. I’m going to earn 100 million dollars one day and slap those divorce papers right in your face!”

He sat down and ignored me completely, his fingers resting against his brow in silence.

I turned on my heel and left, every step fueled by fury.

As soon as I opened the door, I was greeted by Alicia standing by the office door, waiting for me. As soon as she saw me walk out, she rushed forward. “You’ve gone too far, Elise! Jonathan is just worried about you. How could you speak to him that way?”

I shoved her aside. “I’m warning you. Don’t mess with me. I’m in a really bad mood today!”

I jabbed a finger at her. “You think I’m scared of you, Alicia?”

She looked taken aback. “Are you still going to hit me?”

“What if I do? I don’t need a plan to do so.”

Alicia instinctively stumbled back, then shot me a challenging glare. “Go ahead. Hit me! I’ll tell Grandpa!”

“Is that your only trick?” I looked at her mockingly. “All this tattling. You always run off to someone for help. Do you think I’m still afraid of that old geezer? He can protect you all he wants. It has nothing to do with me. If it comes down to it, I’ll just divorce Jonathan!”

“Divorce, divorce, divorce! That’s all you ever talk about! So, why don’t you just do it?”

Alicia couldn’t help but cry out, “Don’t tell me all that talk about divorce is just an excuse. You don’t actually want Jonathan to divorce you, am I right?”

I suddenly let out a cold laugh and slowly approached her. “Isn’t it exhausting to keep up this act, Alicia? You’re dying for me to divorce Jonathan so you can take my place. But in front of him, you pretend it’s all just sibling affection. Aren’t you afraid you’ll end up with split personalities?”

I raised an eyebrow. “Do you think no one can see through your schemes? I wonder if he’d be comfortable referring to you as his sister if he were to one day find out what kind of filthy thoughts you have about him.”

“You wouldn’t dare!” Her expression shifted as panic flickered through her eyes. “Go ahead and tell Jonathan. See if he believes you!”

She was panicking. Yet, she continued to yell at me.

I suddenly found the situation amusing. “I always thought the two of you were partners in crime—pretending to be siblings while acting like a couple. But now, it seems that might not be the case.”

“What are you trying to say?” Alicia took a deep breath. “Weren’t you always convinced that there’s something shady going on between us? What, changing your tune now?”

“Maybe all those things were what you wanted me to see and what you wanted me to think.”

I clicked my tongue twice and watched her face grow darker by the second. It suddenly struck me as hilarious. “You’re right. Maybe you and Jonathan have a sibling relationship. I misjudged him. I should try to understand him, hear
