Chapter 128

She nodded, holding her yellowed, worn-out backpack, and said in a tiny voice, “Y-yes, h-hello.”

Kieran said, “Well, I’m Kieran. From now on, I’m your brother. No need to be so polite.”

She carefully looked up at Kieran, then quickly lowered her head again.

A moment later, “Kieran…”

When she was in a new place, the first and only person who was nice to her was Kieran.

It was totally natural to feel admiration for Kieran.

At first, she just felt grateful to Kieran, and only dared to send Kieran some good morning and good night messages on WhatsApp. Then she held her phone all day, waiting for Kieran to reply.

Kieran replied at different times, sometimes early, sometimes late, but he replied to every message.

She got super happy every time she got a reply, holding her phone and couldn’t stop laughing.

She was dying to text Kieran, but she was worried about bothering him, so she just replied to him with some really cute emojis.

After that, she and Kieran gradually got to know each other.

Slowly, she sent Kieran more and more messages, carefully trying to figure out where Kieran’s boundaries with her were.

Later on, Kieran just spoiled her more and more. Maybe during that time, he really treated her like a little sister and was really gentle and indulgent with her.

During work hours, she also sent Kieran a lot of messages. She didn’t have to worry about bothering Kieran anymore, and she didn’t have to worry about Kieran not replying to her messages.

It was that kind of really comforting, really familiar feeling.

So over two or three years, she and Kieran sent a lot of messages.

She shared a lot of little things with Kieran about school and about the Argent’s villa. Looking back, most of the chat was green message bubbles, all messages she sent to Kieran.

Kieran’s answers were all very short, but every single one responded.

It was also at that time that her feelings about Kieran changed.

She blushed and her heart raced when she saw Kieran, and she didn’t dare look him in the eye.

When she didn’t see Kieran, she missed him a lot.

When she thought a lot, she sent Kieran a bunch of messages.

While she was sending messages, she would sometimes take them back, worried that Kieran, who could see right through people, would figure out what she was thinking.

Kieran would patiently ask her why she took the messages back, and she felt both bitter and sweet inside. She lied and made up excuses for those withdrawn messages.

Alaricka fumbled around in the dark for a long time before she finally scrolled to the day when everything changed between her and Kieran.

It was the day Roschelle suddenly came back.

It was the day her little secret got found out.

It was the day Kieran noticed, called out, and hated what she was thinking.

She didn’t message Kieran again, and there was barely any more chatting after that.

Her long speeches before also turned into as few words as Kieran’s.

Lastly, it was these two messages Kieran sent her.

A wave of weakness suddenly rushed through her whole body, and she almost couldn’t hold her phone.

She thought that even if Kieran couldn’t accept her feelings, she and Kieran could still be siblings for life.

It’s just that the ending turned out so tragic, like all those old chat logs were just dreams she had, never really happened.

Alarieka didn’t add Roschelle’s WhatsApp account.

This was also the first time she wanted to peek at Roschelle’s Instagram.

She found Roschelle’s number in the phone’s contacts, searched Roschelle’s number in the WhatsApp search bar, and a very obviously female account popped up right away.

The account name was really short, just two capital letters: K.R.

When she saw it, she guessed what the two letters meant.

Kieran’s K, and Roschelle’s R.

She kept watching in silence.

Rochelle’s signature was: We were each other’s special one and exception.

She clicked into Instagram, and a bunch of photos and words just popped up.

Alarieka’s fingers slowly slid around, just kept looking and looking.

Except for a few posts about her own random stuff, most of Roschelle’s Instagram was about her time with Kieran, and there was also one post where she showed her ultrasound photo.

If you scrolled all the way down on Roschelle’s Instagram, you could see posts from several years ago.

It was a photo of her and Kieran from high school.

The two of them wore blue and white school uniforms and stood under the sunset, with their backs to the camera.

Although they didn’t hold hands, their hands were close, with the backs touching each other. It was ambiguous and hazy, a kind of young love that only belonged to teenagers.
