Chapter 228 +15 BONUS
Chris indeed brought a group of people, including Ashley, to the Wilder Group for a meeting.
After getting out of the car, Ashley secretly pulled Chris aside and asked, “You brought us to the Wilder Group for the meeting? Does the board know about your relationship with Ms. Wilder?”
“Not really.”
There were always some people who didn’t care about his personal relationships, only thinking about the benefits he could bring. Who his wife was didn’t matter at all.
Chris comforted Ashley. “Don’t worry. The office was arranged by Shannon and Francesca. I originally wanted to meet you guys at my house. The hospital has been a bit chaotic lately, so they didn’t want to talk there.”
Ashley nodded. “That makes sense.”
He looked up and scanned the unfamiliar place. Even though he had worked for Jessica for many years, he had rarely been to the Wilder Group. Whenever he did, he would usually go straight to her office.
The Wilder Group’s office building was so large that the edges of the building could not be seen at a glance. Several other department heads and Jake were shocked to see the place.
One of them leaned over and whispered to Chris, “Mr. Green, I know the hospital isn’t short on money, but… isn’t this a bit too extravagant for discussing surgery plans? If finance finds out… will this get reimbursed?”
Chris was amused by the doctor’s concern. He walked forward and said, “Don’t worry. There’s no need for finance reimbursement.”
A group followed behind. Except for Ashley and Jake, everyone was a bit uneasy, afraid they might be stopped at the door. But the security guard at the entrance surprisingly let them through immediately. He even personally opened the door for Chris and whispered something, to which Chris nodded in acknowledgment.
The 18th floor was filled with meeting rooms of various sizes. Normally, departmental meetings almost filled the entire floor. Even some international conferences rented meeting rooms from the Wilder Group.
There was a special reception on the 18th floor. Seeing Chris, they immediately led him to a room in the middle. They opened the door to an excellent view with huge French windows. Inside was a long table, a projector, and more than a dozen chairs. This was the smallest meeting room available. Drinks, coffee, and other refreshments were set on the table.
The floor manager said to Chris, “Just call me if you need anything. There are staff waiting outside as well. Ms. Wilder said to make sure Mr. Green is happy.”
Before leaving, the manager added, “Ms. Wilder said she wants to have lunch with Mr. Green at noon. Will that work with your schedule?”
It was still early, just past nine. Jessica’s lunch was usually after 12:30. Even if the surgery plans weren’t finished, they could continue in the afternoon.
Chris glanced at the stunned group and asked, “Do you mind?”
Ashley and Jake didn’t say anything. After all, the couple wanted to eat together, why should outsiders mind?
Dr. Westwood said, “We don’t mind at all. Thank you, Ms. Wilder, for letting us use such a large meeting room.”
“Everyone, please make yourselves comfortable.”
The entire morning, the meeting room was filled with cautious, subdued voices. Everyone expressed their opinions. Without the overly commercial discussions from the board, they only considered the patients’ health.
“With this kind of spinal condition, the orthopedic department must operate first. Then the hematology department must be on standby. As for anesthesia, I heard the patient has a history of allergies, specifically drug allergies, so we must be very careful,” said Ashley.
Jake, working under Chris, could only learn from all these big shots and dared not speak lightly.
Upstairs, Jessica’s team was also bustling with activity.
