Chapter 783
That evening, after I finished my shower in the guest room, I was about to head to the master bedroom when I heard someone talking on the phone inside.
Edwardโs voice was full of anger. โWhy did you apply for a transfer to Shaville?โ
โYou went to school there? Thatโs your reason? Donโt tell me youโve got some kind of attachment to Shaville?โ
โJeffrey Jennings will never sign off on this.โ
โRyan, you should focus on building your career in Braylin. Moving to Shaville is a bad idea,โ Edward said angrily.
โYouโre doing this for her, arenโt you?โ Edwardโs voice suddenly shot up. โWhatโs more important to you, your career or your love life? Canโt you see that yet?โ
โStep aside? Ryan, do you really think love is some kind of game? You think if I just give up, sheโll be yours just like that?โ
Standing outside the door, I felt a chill run down my spine as I listened to their conversation.
I couldnโt take it anymore and headed downstairs.
After a while, as I was scrolling through my work emails downstairs, Edward came down clutching his phone.
I acted like nothing had happened and gave him a smile. โItโs late, wanna call it a night?โ
Edward switched off the living room lights, and the room grew dimmer.
He dropped onto the couch next to me, looking weighed down. He leaned his head back against the seat and just sat there for a moment.
โIs everything okay? Did something happen?โ I asked softly, concern in my voice.
Edward didnโt say anything. He just turned and pulled me close on the couch, pressing me down as he kissed me.
I knew he was upset, so I responded softly to his kiss, letting him take the lead until his hands slipped under my pajamas.
โEdwardโฆโ I gasped, startled. โIs he really going to do this here?โ I wondered.
โLet me, okay?โ Edward murmured, his voice gentle as he tried to soothe me.
I still didnโt know how to react. Tonight, Edward seemed overwhelmed by something heavy inside.
I knew he was upset because of Ryan, and tonight, he was using me to vent all that pent-up frustration.
Butโฆ when did I become the one he takes it out on?
Seeing I didnโt answer, Edward just held me tighter, his kisses growing more passionate and his movements more urgent.
My mind went completely blank as Edward switched up his moves again and again, only stopping when he was finally satisfied. Then he pulled me close, trailing kisses all over me.
I went back upstairs and took another shower, my mind slowly coming back from the daze of earlier.
Edward was obviously jealous. He always says he trusts me, but as soon as Ryan said he was coming to Shaville, Edward got jealous all over again.
Is this really trust?โ I thought to myself.
After my shower, I stepped out to find Edward standing in the hallway. He still had that lingering, intimate scent from earlier. He hadnโt showered, but he was holding a cigarette.
He rarely smoked. In all the time Iโd been with him, Iโd only seen him smoke twice. Tonight was the third time.
โWhatโs wrong? Still not feeling better?โ I asked.
Edwardโs dark eyes locked onto mine, and he suddenly apologized. โIโm sorry, Victoria. I was a bit rough earlier.โ
โCan you tell me why?โ I hoped heโd be honest with me.
But Edward just looked into my eyes and said, โItโs nothing. Just some work stuff. It wonโt happen again.โ
My heart sank. Edward was lying.
He couldnโt even bring himself to tell me Ryan was transferring to Shaville.
โWhereโs the trust?โ I wondered.
Since he wouldnโt tell me, I didnโt push. I gave him a faint smile. โEdward, I think I want to sleep at my own place tonight.โ
Edward paused, then suddenly stepped forward and pulled me into his arms, his voice low and pleading, โDonโt go. Just stay here with me tonight, please?โ
I squeezed my eyes shut and nodded. โOkay.โ
That night, Edwardโs arm stayed wrapped around my waist. He held me close, as if he was terrified of losing me.
