Chapter 751

Just as I was about to say something, Edwardโ€™s voice came from behind me. โ€œAre you heading back to Hachester now?โ€

I nodded. โ€œYeah, Iโ€™m on my way to the airport.โ€

โ€œLet me give you a ride,โ€ Edward said.

I nodded again.

On the way to the airport, Edward tried to reassure me. โ€œIโ€™ll talk to my parents. Donโ€™t worry about it.โ€

โ€œEdward, are you really sure about this?โ€ I asked, still feeling doubtful. Honestly, I couldnโ€™t imagine Edward actually wanting to spend his whole life with me.

Edward nodded. โ€œI know marriage isnโ€™t something to take lightly. Itโ€™s about spending countless days together, supporting each other through thick and thin. Itโ€™s not just about passion.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve got some real insight into marriage. No wonderโ€“youโ€™ve already been inside the fortress,โ€ I joked, grinning at him.

Edward sighed. โ€œYeah, itโ€™s because Iโ€™ve seen what itโ€™s really like in there that I know exactly what kind of person I want to be with.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not really that interesting, you know. Iโ€™m actually kind of dull,โ€ I muttered.

Edward laughed. โ€œRelax, Iโ€™ll show you more of the world. With me, youโ€™ll never feel bored.โ€

โ€œAlright then, guess Iโ€™ll just tag along with you,โ€ I said, leaning into his arm as the scenery outside the window sped by.

My feelings for Edward werenโ€™t all that simple. With his top-notch connections and powerful family backing, being with him meant my life would be a whole lot less uncertain.

Smart women donโ€™t get blinded by love anymore.

If youโ€™re gonna fall for someone, you gotta use your head and weigh all the pros and cons before jumping in.

When we got to the airport, Edward got a call that sounded pretty important. After I went inside, he reminded me to shoot him a text before boarding and let him know when I landed safely, then he drove off.

I walked into the airport traveling light, bought a ticket for the earliest flight available, but still had to wait an hour before boarding.

I found a coffee shop, sat down, and scrolled through my work messages on my phone.

Someone mustโ€™ve sat down next to me, but I barely registered it.

Still glued to my phone, I absentmindedly grabbed the coffee Iโ€™d ordered and took a sip.

Suddenly, the person beside me spoke up. โ€œHey, thatโ€™s my coffee.โ€

My gaze sharpened as I snapped my head up. He was wearing a baseball cap and a black mask, but there was no mistaking that voice.

โ€œRyanโ€ฆโ€ I looked around, suddenly anxious. โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€

Ryan had ordered a coffee too. I couldnโ€™t shake the feeling heโ€™d put his cup closer to me on purpose, so I ended up picking it up, thinking it was mine.

โ€œSorry, Iโ€™ll get you another one,โ€ I said, standing up.

Suddenly, he reached out and pressed his hand over mine.

His hand was scorching hot.

I jerked my hand back, startled, and glared at him. โ€œYouโ€™re out of line.โ€

โ€œWe used to be joined at the hip, and now just touching your hand is crossing the line?โ€ Ryan scoffed softly. โ€œTurns out, when the loveโ€™s gone, even a simple touch feels uncomfortable.โ€

โ€œYou shouldnโ€™t have come to see me,โ€ I reminded him coolly.

โ€œItโ€™s not that I shouldnโ€™t be here. You just donโ€™t want to see me,โ€ Ryan said, his face full of hurt. โ€œVic, this really isnโ€™t fair.โ€

โ€œDid you forget something? Youโ€™re married,โ€ I said, letting out a disbelieving laugh. โ€œBeing married means you canโ€™t just meet up with other women whenever you want. What youโ€™re doing is cheating on your wife, crossing the line, and totally ignoring basic decency.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t marry Uncle Ryan. Donโ€™t become my aunt. Otherwise, who knows what might happen,โ€ Ryan suddenly warned, his eyes burning with anger. โ€œIโ€™m going to get divorced sooner or later. When Iโ€™m single again, do you really think Iโ€™ll just play along and call you โ€˜auntโ€˜?โ€

โ€œRyan, are you crazy?โ€ I shot to my feet. โ€œWhen you decided to get married, did I say a single word? I disappeared right away, deleted every way you could reach me. That was me respecting your choice. So what the hell are you doing now?โ€

โ€œCall me a jerk, call me a devilโ€“I never wanted to be the good guy anyway,โ€ Ryan said, his eyes burning red as he stared at me like some beast from the abyss. โ€œTake this as a warning. You are not allowed to marry Edward.โ€

He actually called Edward by his name.

My heart thudded. Was Ryan really going to go this far?

โ€œYouโ€™re a married manโ€“what right do you have to butt in?โ€ I snapped, my anger flaring. โ€œRyan, this isnโ€™t love, itโ€™s just your twisted possessiveness. You treat me like some toy, and now that youโ€™re done, you canโ€™t stand the thought of me being with someone else.โ€

โ€œYeah, I donโ€™t care. I just wonโ€™t let it happen,โ€ Ryan shot back, suddenly getting to his feet.
