Chapter 751
Just as I was about to say something, Edwardโs voice came from behind me. โAre you heading back to Hachester now?โ
I nodded. โYeah, Iโm on my way to the airport.โ
โLet me give you a ride,โ Edward said.
I nodded again.
On the way to the airport, Edward tried to reassure me. โIโll talk to my parents. Donโt worry about it.โ
โEdward, are you really sure about this?โ I asked, still feeling doubtful. Honestly, I couldnโt imagine Edward actually wanting to spend his whole life with me.
Edward nodded. โI know marriage isnโt something to take lightly. Itโs about spending countless days together, supporting each other through thick and thin. Itโs not just about passion.โ
โYouโve got some real insight into marriage. No wonderโyouโve already been inside the fortress,โ I joked, grinning at him.
Edward sighed. โYeah, itโs because Iโve seen what itโs really like in there that I know exactly what kind of person I want to be with.โ
โIโm not really that interesting, you know. Iโm actually kind of dull,โ I muttered.
Edward laughed. โRelax, Iโll show you more of the world. With me, youโll never feel bored.โ
โAlright then, guess Iโll just tag along with you,โ I said, leaning into his arm as the scenery outside the window sped by.
My feelings for Edward werenโt all that simple. With his top-notch connections and powerful family backing, being with him meant my life would be a whole lot less uncertain.
Smart women donโt get blinded by love anymore.
If youโre gonna fall for someone, you gotta use your head and weigh all the pros and cons before jumping in.
When we got to the airport, Edward got a call that sounded pretty important. After I went inside, he reminded me to shoot him a text before boarding and let him know when I landed safely, then he drove off.
I walked into the airport traveling light, bought a ticket for the earliest flight available, but still had to wait an hour before boarding.
I found a coffee shop, sat down, and scrolled through my work messages on my phone.
Someone mustโve sat down next to me, but I barely registered it.
Still glued to my phone, I absentmindedly grabbed the coffee Iโd ordered and took a sip.
Suddenly, the person beside me spoke up. โHey, thatโs my coffee.โ
My gaze sharpened as I snapped my head up. He was wearing a baseball cap and a black mask, but there was no mistaking that voice.
โRyanโฆโ I looked around, suddenly anxious. โWhat are you doing here?โ
Ryan had ordered a coffee too. I couldnโt shake the feeling heโd put his cup closer to me on purpose, so I ended up picking it up, thinking it was mine.
โSorry, Iโll get you another one,โ I said, standing up.
Suddenly, he reached out and pressed his hand over mine.
His hand was scorching hot.
I jerked my hand back, startled, and glared at him. โYouโre out of line.โ
โWe used to be joined at the hip, and now just touching your hand is crossing the line?โ Ryan scoffed softly. โTurns out, when the loveโs gone, even a simple touch feels uncomfortable.โ
โYou shouldnโt have come to see me,โ I reminded him coolly.
โItโs not that I shouldnโt be here. You just donโt want to see me,โ Ryan said, his face full of hurt. โVic, this really isnโt fair.โ
โDid you forget something? Youโre married,โ I said, letting out a disbelieving laugh. โBeing married means you canโt just meet up with other women whenever you want. What youโre doing is cheating on your wife, crossing the line, and totally ignoring basic decency.โ
โDonโt marry Uncle Ryan. Donโt become my aunt. Otherwise, who knows what might happen,โ Ryan suddenly warned, his eyes burning with anger. โIโm going to get divorced sooner or later. When Iโm single again, do you really think Iโll just play along and call you โauntโ?โ
โRyan, are you crazy?โ I shot to my feet. โWhen you decided to get married, did I say a single word? I disappeared right away, deleted every way you could reach me. That was me respecting your choice. So what the hell are you doing now?โ
โCall me a jerk, call me a devilโI never wanted to be the good guy anyway,โ Ryan said, his eyes burning red as he stared at me like some beast from the abyss. โTake this as a warning. You are not allowed to marry Edward.โ
He actually called Edward by his name.
My heart thudded. Was Ryan really going to go this far?
โYouโre a married manโwhat right do you have to butt in?โ I snapped, my anger flaring. โRyan, this isnโt love, itโs just your twisted possessiveness. You treat me like some toy, and now that youโre done, you canโt stand the thought of me being with someone else.โ
โYeah, I donโt care. I just wonโt let it happen,โ Ryan shot back, suddenly getting to his feet.
