Chapter 673
Edwardโs sudden invitation left me feeling a bit awkward. I was caught off guard and didnโt know how to respond.
My daughter was still here, and I really wanted to make time to be with her.
โIs this a bad time?โ Edward asked gently, probably because I didnโt answer right away.
I had to reply in a low voice, โI need to go home and take a shower. I have dinner plans with my daughter tonight, so I might not have enough time.โ
Edward paused for a moment before saying, โIโll wait for you downstairs at your apartment.โ
My heart skipped a beat. โWhy is Edward waiting for me? Isnโt he worried Elaine might be there?โ
Thinking about how Jared pinned all the blame on Elaine, I felt a pang of unease.
I quickly hailed a cab and headed back. Sure enough, I saw a Maybach parked by the curb.
As soon as I got out of the cab, Edward stepped out of the back seat.
He was tall and dressed in a sleek black suit. He crossed the street and walked up to me.
He looked at me, his eyes burning with intensity.
The way he looked at me instantly brought back memories of what happened in the car.
Even though it was rushed, the taste of it was intoxicating. Maybe it was the thrill of doing something we shouldnโt, that sense of taboo, that awakened something rebellious deep inside me.
It was dangerously addictive, and I knew I should stay away.
โWhy do you always space out whenever you see me?โ Edward let out a low laugh.
It was like, even when I was lost in thought, he saw me as a sight worth looking at. He reached out and gave my cheek a playful squeeze.
โSo, why are you here?โ I muttered.
Edward was stumped by my question and didnโt know what to say for a moment.
I turned and headed toward the elevator, with Edward silently trailing behind me.
โWhat if my roommate shows up?โ I turned, holding him back.
But Edward suddenly reached out, his touch commanding as he grabbed the back of my head and kissed me.
His sudden boldness left me dazed for a few seconds.
โSheโs out for the night and wonโt be back,โ Edward said in a low, husky voice.
My mind was all over the place.
Edward reached out and pressed the elevator button.
The elevator arrived quickly, and the ding snapped me out of my daze.
Biting my lip, I silently stepped inside, with Edward right behind me.
I could tell Edward was even more addicted to this than I was.
When we got to my apartment door, I ducked my head and started digging through my bag for my keys.
The keys slipped right out of my fingers and hit the floor with a clatter. I felt a surge of frustration. โWhy do I always get more clumsy when Iโm in a rush?โ
Edward bent down and scooped them up with his big hand, his low chuckle sounding right by my ear.
It was like he just loved seeing me all flustered and helpless.
I shot him a glare over my shoulder, but Edward just smiled and unlocked the door like it was nothing.
I stepped inside, and Edward followed right behind me.
As soon as the door clicked shut, Edward closed the distance between us from behind, his arms tightening around me.
โIโm gonna take a showerโฆโ For some reason, my voice came out a little rough.
I was only back to grab a quick shower before catching up with Jared and Yvonne.
โAlright,โ Edward said, letting go of me.
I hurried into my bedroom, and Edward just leaned against the wall by the door, watching me quietly.
My hand paused as I was searching for clothes. I turned to look at him, and the fire in his eyes set my nerves on edge.
Adults donโt play gamesโthey go straight for what they want.
โEdward, I really donโt have time tonightโฆโ I swallowed, my voice coming out rough and strained.
Edward saw right through my wavering and silent consent. He walked over, and as I sat on the edge of the bed, he crouched down in front of me. In the dark bedroom, the light in his eyes grew even deeper and more intense.
The sound of our restrained breathing filled the silence around us.
