Chapter 634

โ€œYou couldnโ€™t afford that,โ€ I shot back, my heart skipping a beat.

He looked over at me. โ€œCare to test me? Marriage is where this all leads.โ€

โ€œMr. Jennings, I have no intention of ever getting married again, so thereโ€™s no destination for us,โ€ I blurted out, my heart pounding. โ€˜Has Edward completely lost it?โ€™

Ryan and I had barely broken up, and now he was already tossing the word โ€œmarriageโ€ at me like it was nothing.

โ€˜Seriously, is life in their elite circles really this chaotic?โ€™

โ€˜Or maybe women just donโ€™t even register on their radar!โ€™

โ€˜Either way, thereโ€™s no way Iโ€™m throwing myself into that dumpster fire!โ€™

โ€œThen, can I at least be a part of your story?โ€ Edward asked, his voice low and husky.

โ€œSorry,โ€ I muttered, his flirting was driving me crazy. โ€œIโ€™m heading upstairs. Take care on your way home.โ€

Not giving him another glance, I headed upstairs.

Once I got home, I opened the window and glanced down. There he was, still leaning against his car, cigarette in hand. He hadnโ€™t left yet.

Freaking out, I yanked my head back inside. No way was I letting him catch me spying on him.

Elaine still hadnโ€™t come home yet. Guess sheโ€™s out for the night again.

I took a shower and crashed onto my bed, tomorrowโ€™s lesson plan sitting right next to me. But honestly, my mind was nowhere near it.

I was so restless, like I was wrapped up in flamesโ€“so much that I was actually getting hot.

Even during that wild, passionate year with Jared in my previous life, I never felt my heart floating so high, so untethered, like I do tonight.

Back then, after class, I didnโ€™t have a single worry. I just knew Jared would show up, never once letting me downโ€“and every time, heโ€™d bring me a little gift.

But nowโ€ฆ Edwardโ€™s arrival was so unpredictable, throwing my emotions into chaos and leaving me restless.

I shut my eyes, letting my thoughts wander.

Before I knew it, I drifted off to sleep.

In my dream, I was back in high school, rocking a ponytail, full of energy as I walked to class with my friends.

โ€œVictoria, youโ€™re in the wrong classroom. Your class is in Dreamer Hallโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDreamer Hallโ€ฆโ€ I mumbled, standing in the hallway, glancing around in confusion, trying to figure out where I was supposed to go.

In my dream, I was sprinting all over the school building, totally lost, thinking, โ€˜Since when did our school even have a Dreamer Hall?โ€™

I kept running and running in that dream, like it would never endโ€ฆ

When I woke up, it all felt so realโ€“and I was exhausted, like Iโ€™d just run a marathon in my sleep.

I tossed off the covers and sat up, covering my face with both hands. โ€˜Dreamer Hallโ€ฆโ€™

No wonder I could never find it in my dreamโ€“turns out, that building doesnโ€™t even exist yet.

I splashed cold water on my face, the chill snapping me right back to reality.

I forced myself to stop thinking about Edward, grabbed my books, and hurried out to class.

At noon, the guy from Shaville called me up. Turns out, theyโ€™d dug up some bad press on the guy who was scamming people, got a few witnesses to spill, and the troublemaker finally shut up. He even agreed to have the wedding at the hotel, just like weโ€™d arranged, and paid half the deposit up front.

With that mess finally sorted, I was sitting in a cafรฉ, watching people go by outside. Out of nowhere, I thought, โ€˜If Edward could really teach me some ways to handle stuff like this, Iโ€™d have way more tricks up my sleeve at work.โ€™

But then again, those are his hard-earned lessons. Just mooching off him wouldnโ€™t be fair.

Messing around on my phone, I suddenly remembered that legendary Akhal-Teke horse Edward mentioned yesterday.

I had no idea what it even looked like, just heard it was insanely rareโ€“most people would never get a chance to see one in real life.

I tried googling The Jennings Group, but there was barely anything out there. All I found was that the company had been around for nearly a century and had their hands on all kinds of top-tier resources. Other than that, it was a total dead end.

I absentmindedly sipped my coffee, then made my way back to campus for the afternoon classes.

At five in the afternoon, I walked out of school and suddenly spotted a Maybach parked right at the gate.

โ€˜Crap.โ€™ My heart nearly jumped out of my chest.
