Chapter 891
Behind a massive desk in the Tanner Corporation building, a nearly transparent glass wallโwiped so clean it was almost invisibleโallowed sunlight to flood the office. He gazed at the sprawling cityscape, convinced this was the pinnacle of his achievement, the culmination of his deserved success.
Nathaniel swirled the red wine in his glass, its vibrant color captivating. A slight smile played on his lips as he recalled the past few months, almost as if it were a dream. Heโd envisioned building a career through sheer effort, becoming someone people admired. Instead, his company had gone bankrupt, forcing him to evade creditors. Arianna had rescued him, bringing him into her company. He knew she was using him, a pawn in her game, but he'd anticipated this, meticulously planning his own moves.
Each player believed themselves the mastermind, unaware they were all pawns in Nathanielโs intricate game. Now, it was over. He'd achieved fame and fortune. Yet, Derrick Tanner stubbornly refused to relinquish his shares.
Despite seizing control of the companyโforging an appointment letter and buying out minor shareholdersโNathaniel remained uneasy without the shares. He held Derrick and his wife captive, able to manipulate them at will.
A knock interrupted his thoughts. His secretary entered. "Mr. Hall, Mrs. Tanner..." she began hesitantly.
Nathaniel saw Eloise entering and waved his hand dismissively. "Leave us, and don't admit anyone without my permission."
"Yes, sir." The secretary departed.
The door closed, leaving Eloise facing him. The setting sun cast Nathaniel in silhouette, his expression obscured. Perhaps Iโve never truly seen him, never understood him, Eloise thought.
"Take a seat," he commanded, a proud, almost smug, air about him. He felt he deserved this pride, this victory, after his elaborate manipulation. But his self-satisfaction stung Eloise.
"Now you've gotten what you wanted," she stated, surveying the immense office. It was vast enough to accommodate fifty workers comfortably. She rarely visited Derrickโs office, but the changes were striking.
"Why? Doesn't it please you?" Nathaniel chuckled, spreading his arms wide. "Do you see how capable your son is? I've not only taken over the Tanner Corporation; everything else the Tanner family owns will soon be mine. Aren't you happy for me?"
"At what cost? Do you know your sister is still in jail?"
