Chapter 805
Elizabeth was displeased by Josephโs words, believing he was protecting Eloise.
โHow is that impossible? Youโre training Damian to be the companyโs successor. She could be jealous, hold a grudge against Damian, and be plotting something to destroy us! She and that model are in the same industry. Donโt forget that!โ
The more Elizabeth explained, the more convinced she became of her assumptions. She pulled Damian into her arms and began to wail.
โWeโre so miserable! My son is finally going to succeed, but someone is trying to stop him!โ
โThatโs enough. Stop overthinking! Eloise is not that kind of person!โ Joseph rebuked, then continued, โSheโs concerned about the bigger picture. This isnโt just about jealousy; it involves Tanner Corporation. What would she gain by destroying the company? Do you think sheโs that dumb?โ
Elizabeth was stunned by his outburst, while Damian tugged at her shirt.
โMom, I donโt think itโs Eloise. Itโs probably a business competitor. Iโm inexperienced; the company should blame me. Iโll take responsibility.โ Initially flustered, Damian regained his composure. He knew he should be accountable.
He agreed with his mother, but Joseph clearly didnโt believe them, so arguing was pointless. Seeing this, Joseph nodded. โThe most important thing is not finding fault, but settling the issue.โ
โThenโฆwhat should we do?โ Elizabeth had no business experience to handle this crisis. After graduating, sheโd worked in sales, then married Joseph and quit her job. She wasnโt entirely isolated, as Joseph wasn't always home, giving her time for shopping and watching the news. Otherwise, she'd be oblivious to world events.
โLet me think. Damian, stay home and avoid the public eye for the next few weeks. If the company needs you to make a public statement, be unassertive, give in, and apologize. Understand?โ
Damian nodded. โYeah, I got it, Dad.โ
โOkay. Iโll leave now.โ Joseph stood, exhausted.
โArenโt you staying for dinner?โ Elizabeth asked hastily. โWhy donโt you stay tonight?โ
โDo I look like Iโm in the mood? This is urgent. Do you think I can wait?โ
Joseph glared at her. For the first time in years, he felt she didnโt understand him.
โYou donโt understand anything!โ
โHey!โ Elizabeth retorted, surprised by his scorn. Heโd already left.
โYeah! I know nothing! You understand everything! Iโve sacrificed everything and stayed by your side! Are you unhappy with me now? Why didnโt you feel that way before?โ Elizabeth stamped her foot, but remembered his earlier warning and didnโt chase after him.
โMom, donโt be mad. Dadโs just anxious,โ Damian comforted her.
โIs he the only one anxious? Am I not? Does he think heโs the only one who cares about you? I care too!โ Elizabeth rolled her eyes. โYou two are teaming up to annoy me!โ
Damian was speechless.
Derrick was admitted to a private hospital, which offered a better environment than a public hospital, albeit at a higher cost. Situated on a hillside, it was quiet and serene. Birds sang in the mornings. It felt like a peaceful paradise, a far cry from the chaos outside.
