Chapter 60
Lily waved her hands repeatedly. "No need. Rebirth is just a small subsidiary of the La Beautรฉ Group, and our leader is my direct boss. It's nowhere near as significant as your position as CEO. Don't intimidate people like that."
Alexander chuckled, then stroked his chin. "That's smooth flattery. I'll consider a reward."
"What's the reward?" she asked, intrigued.
"What do you want?" He approached, his voice close to her ear.
Lily shivered. Springing up, she replied, "I'll have to think about that! Let's eat first. I'm hungry!"
Alexander watched her flee into the kitchen but said nothing. He smiled, then looked down at his tablet. A turbulent, dark look filled his eyes. It was all nonsense, of course, but any woman who dared to slander him would face consequences!
In the kitchen, Lily washed her hands and peered into the refrigerator. Expecting instant noodles or eggs, she was surprised to find it fully stocked with meat and fresh vegetables.
Lily assumed someone like Alexander would dislike housework. He also didn't want daily housekeepers; they only came every other day to clean. How could he hoard so many groceries?
After reviewing the ingredients, she decided to cook and ask him later. The past few weeks had been busy dealing with "First Love," resulting in inconsistent meals. Alexander had taken her out twice, but she missed home-cooked food.
The refrigerator contained pre-packaged bones for broth, simplifying things. After blanching the bones to remove impurities, Lily simmered them in a pot. Adding eggs and garnish, dinner would soon be ready.
Alexander spent some time finishing a few tasks. Finding Lily still in the kitchen, he went to check on her.
As he entered, she was cooking with a spatula. A powerful, fragrant aroma wafted from the doorway, making him instantly hungry.
He stood at the kitchen door, leaning against the frame, silently observing her.
Lily, slim in her large apron, looked even smaller with the straps around her waist. Turning to check the soup while cooking vegetables, she was beautiful. He just wanted toโฆ
After a moment, Alexander snapped out of it, straightened, and walked over. Taking the spatula from her hand, he said, "I'll do it."
"Whoa!" Lily jumped, startled. Engrossed in cooking, she hadn't noticed him enter.
He reacted quickly, holding her waist to prevent her from falling while keeping a firm grip on the spatula. The next second, he took over cooking.
"You'll do it?"
Lily was stunned, then reached for the spatula again. Alexander cleverly avoided her. While stirring the pot, he gently nudged her out of the kitchen. "Go ahead. I'll be fine here."
His cue was unclear, so Lily hesitated for a moment. Seeing how well he cooked, she no longer resisted.
"Go!" Alexander exclaimed when she still lingered.
With nothing else to do, Lily stepped back. [The final sentence is unintelligible and needs to be rewritten or removed. It appears to be a fragment about adding salt.]
