Chapter 509
Olivia went to the bathroom to wash her face. Looking in the mirror, she saw a mess. Her hair was tangled and matted; she could grab a fistful. That woman was ruthless. Brittany, however, was also a mess. Olivia had yanked out a significant amount of her hair, and her punches had landed hard. That was for her showing off, and for being Lily's love rival. Helping her friend manage her romantic rival felt entirely justifiable.
Feeling righteous, Olivia brushed her hair, washed her face and neck, and left the bathroom.
"Sit down," Edward said, pointing to the seat before him.
Olivia pouted. "No need! It's just a small injury."
"The injury may be small, but the annual incidence of tetanus infection from minor wounds is approximately 1 in 600,000, and the fatality rate is"
"Fine, I'll put the medicine on," Olivia conceded.
Initially, Olivia found Edward dull. She later realized he was hard on the outside, soft on the inside. When she expected him to be verbose, he'd spout highfalutin pronouncements until everyone was speechless. Conversely, when she anticipated a lengthy conversation, he'd sit silently for hours. He was full of contradictions. Frankly, though, he treated her quite well.
When the medicated cotton swab touched her face, Olivia gasped. "Ouch! That hurts!"
"Why did you fight with her?" Edward asked, carefully applying the medicine.
"She hit me first! I was acting in self-defense," Olivia said confidently.
Glancing at her, Edward continued, "Deliberately misleading her and pretending to be Mr. Russell's fiancรฉeโwas that self-defense, too?"
"She misinterpreted the situation. It's not my fault. Even if I denied it, she wouldn't believe me. With Brittany's paranoid and arrogant personality, she'd never accept that I wasn't the woman she was looking for."
Edward paused. He found Olivia's explanation reasonable. Brittany was incredibly stubborn. Having been by Alexander's side often, he knew her spoiled and ill-tempered nature well.
"By the way, what's her background? She's so arrogant, she even threw money at me! As if I've never seen money before!" Olivia exclaimed, still angry. "Although," she added, "it was a lot of money!" (Olivia's nonchalant attitude was merely a front; she secretly wished she had that kind of wealth.)
"How did she throw money at you?" Edward asked, amused.
"Like some old TV melodrama. She wrote me a check to leave Alexander, even letting me name my price. I did, and she regretted it instantly!" Olivia complained. "She shouldn't have started if she couldn't afford to play! So embarrassing!"
"You made a counteroffer?" Edward asked, surprised and curious. "How much did you ask for?"
The amount must have been substantial to make Brittany back down, but he was still stunned when Olivia said, "I asked for two or three billion."
"Youโฆ dared to ask for that much?!" he exclaimed.
Who knew this petite, emotional girl was so audacious? Brittany must have been shockedโanyone would have been!
