Chapter 508

Edward was out of the loop. Fearful of misspeaking, he remained silent.

"If you didn't know, why are you here taking care of her? Didn't Alexander ask you to do this?" Brittany demanded, pointing at Olivia.

"He arranged it, butโ€ฆ" Edward began to explain, but Olivia interrupted.

"Did you hear that? Alexander sent him to take care of me, to let me live here. No matter how jealous you are, or how much you want to break us up, you won't have the chance!" Olivia wagged her finger at Brittany, then gave a thumbs-down gesture. This irritated Brittany, who was about to attack Olivia when Edward intervened.

"Miss Oakley, calm down!" He wasn't good at comforting people, so that was all he could manage. Brittany had clearly mistaken him for an ally, yet Olivia chose to mislead and anger her rather than tell the truth.

"Okay, I won't," Brittany said, calming down after Edward's intervention. "But as you saw, I didn't touch her, and she hit me. Don't twist the truth when you tell Alexander."

Edward remained silent.

"Humph! Wait and see!" Brittany threatened Olivia before fixing her hair, picking up her fallen bag, and storming out. Edward watched her go, hesitating before deciding not to follow.

"Why didn't you go after her?" Olivia asked, bending to gather the scattered items, including two broken cups. "It's not worth it," she muttered. "I'll have to figure out how to pay for this."

Although satisfied during the argument, Olivia's satisfaction waned as she considered the cost of the damage. Edward brought a broom and dustpan to help her clean up.

"Why did you mislead her?" he asked while sweeping.

"Mislead her?" Olivia scoffed, pointing at her nose. "She's the one who didn't figure it out. She jumped to conclusions, accusing me of being a vixen. Since she thinks so, I'll play the part!" She shrugged. "I merely fulfilled Brittany's wish, so you're welcome, Brittany."

Edward said nothing, continuing to clean.

After tidying up and wiping the table, Olivia sat heavily, relieved to have released the pent-up emotions of the past few days.

"I'm worn out!" she exclaimed.

Edward approached with cotton swabs, iodophor solution, and bandages. "Go wash your face. I'll clean that cut," he said.

"Huh?" Olivia reacted, touching her cheek. "It stings a bit, but it's just a scratch."

"Don't bother. It'll heal tomorrow!" she waved dismissively.

Instead of arguing, Edward said, "Human nails are filthy, harboring bacteria and dirt. Infections from scratches are common. A mild scratch might heal in two days, but improper cleaning can lead to disfigurementโ€ฆ"

"Stop! I'll wash it. I'll wash my face, okay?!" Olivia interrupted, fearing he'd embarrass her further.
