Chapter 47
โItโs not bad. Iโm in a new environment and working with new people. It feels like a rebirth, just like the companyโs name.โ
Lily didnโt mention the mistreatment she experienced at her previous workplace. She knew not everyone would get along with her; some people sheโd click with, others she wouldnโt.
Jenny was right. Lily hadnโt made a name for herself, nor did she have much experience. Not only that, but she also had several lawsuits pending. It was typical for companies to hesitate to hire her. It was true that Lily got into Rebirth through connections, but now she had to prove her doubters wrong by demonstrating her capabilities. โThatโs good,โ Alexander said, leaning down to kiss her cheek.
He was aware of everything that had happened at the company but didnโt bring it up, as she hadnโt mentioned it. He also wanted to see how far she could go on her own, after sheโd been so insistent about keeping their relationship private. Alexander knew she wouldnโt disappoint him.
The light touch of his lips on her cheek wasnโt enough. He lowered his head and kissed her lips. The sight of her bright eyes and pink lips darkened his own as desire overwhelmed him.
His firm grip on her waist prevented her from falling to the floor, her legs weak. Her hands gripped his shoulders tightly. Still, she didnโt dare provoke him further, fearing heโd become more demanding. Just then, her phone rang. The ringtone, to Alexander, was a jarring sound.
โIโm going to take a call,โ Lily said, pulling away, but he wouldnโt let her go.
Impatiently, he glanced at the phone, โIgnore it!โ
โLet me see who it is first.โ
His expression made Lily want to laugh. She hadnโt expected him to be so adorable when he was being unreasonable and childish. Although Alexander was silent, his grip on her waist didnโt loosen. Lilyโs phone continued to ring, and worried it might be an emergency, she stood on tiptoe and kissed his cheek to appease him.
Before she could regain her balance, however, he turned his head and kissed her. After a long moment, he finally released her. The phone was still ringing insistently. Blushing, she rushed to answer it, but the name on the screen stunned her.
It was Nathaniel. She unconsciously glanced at Alexander, realizing he was looking at her too.
โDo you want me to answer it?โ he offered, noticing her hesitation.
โItโs fine. I can handle it.โ
Shaking her head, she answered and put the call on speakerphone. Nathanielโs angry voice filled the room. โLily! Why did you stop renting the place? Why didnโt you tell me about it?โ
