Chapter 401
Jenny was right; the ongoing situation was incredibly frustrating. Lily believed her relationship with Nathaniel was over, yet he remained persistent. Work-related contact she could understand, but his current actions were baffling. Calling the police was only a temporary fix; since it wasn't a serious crime, he'd likely be fined and released. Then what? What if he returned the next day?
"Anything on your mind?"
Alexander, having observed Lily excessively watering the same plant, hugged her from behind. The poor pot was nearly drowning, yet she remained oblivious.
"Huh?"
Lily finally registered the overflowing pot. "Yeah!" she exclaimed, quickly stopping and moving to another plant. Alexander took the watering can, setting it aside. "Okay, don't harm them yet."
Hands empty, Lily tightened her lips. "Do you think I'm a scourge?"
Alexander remained silent. "What's life without the freedom to express emotions? If you want to harm someone, I'll keep you at home and only harm myself!" He softly kissed her hand.
It was the most beautifulโand amusingโthing Lily had ever heard Alexander say. Looking into his eyes, she pondered before replying, "I was thinkingโฆ should we make our relationship public?"
"Why? You finally want to announce our relationship?"
He took her hand, leading her inside. He helped her onto the sofa, fetching a clean towel to carefully wipe her hands, cleaning each finger individually. Despite her work with chemicals, her hands were well-maintained; naturally fair, they were velvety smooth and delicate.
"I" she hesitated.
"Does it have something to do with the balloons at your company today?" he asked casually.
Lily was surprised but quickly composed herself. Rebirth, a La Beautรฉ Group subsidiary, was also his company; he undoubtedly knew about the commotion. Hesitant, she sighed, "I thought I'd made it clear, but he doesn't seem to understand. I don't understand what he wants by creating such a big scene."
"It's simple. Meet him and find out," Alexander replied nonchalantly.
"You don't mind?" Lily asked cautiously, remembering Nathaniel was her ex, a fact Alexander knew.
How could he mind? He stopped wiping her fingers, looking up. "Do you still like him?" His tone was level, devoid of jealousy or doubt.
Lily vehemently shook her head. The idea was ludicrous! After his true nature had been revealed and after the rumors, liking him was unthinkable. "That's right," she said.
Alexander smiled. "If you no longer have him in your mind, and you no longer like him, then you're just meeting a stranger to settle things. Why would I mind?"
