Chapter 323
Mike stepped forward. "I'm his father, Mike Corden."
The doctor said, "Your son has a severe allergy. You must remember this and monitor his diet closely to prevent accidental ingestion of allergens. Please pay close attention to what he eats." He repeatedly warned Nick's father to exercise caution.
Lily was right about the child's symptoms. Although not a doctor, she had experience with severe allergic reactions. After confirming the boy was stable and transferred to a regular ward, she started to leave.
"Since he's fine, I'll go," she said.
"Wait," Mike called, stepping in front of her. "You saved my son. Name your price."
Lily was startled. "Umthat's okay. I was just trying to help. Besides, I didn't do much. You should thank the doctor instead." She pointed toward the doctor, unconcerned about his offer.
"Are you sure you're not interested?" he asked, surprised. "Money? Something you need done? Tell me what you want, and I'll help."
Lisa tugged Lily's sleeve and whispered, "Lily, Mike Corden is well-known in Bryxton City. You could always ask him for help in the future."
Lily had already guessed this. Mike's demeanor and his offer made it clear he was wealthy and powerful. However, she didn't need his help. Seeing his smug expression, she decided to make things difficult.
"Mr. Corden," Lily said, smiling slyly, "since you're so insistent on repaying meโฆ have you ever heard of the perfume 'Blossom'? I'm not interested in money or anything else, just this perfume. Do you think you could get me some?"
"Blossom?" Mike asked, concerned he'd misheard.
"Yes," Lily nodded. "Since it's getting late, I'll be leaving. Goodbye." She gave a polite nod and left.
Lisa caught up. "Lily, wait! I'm coming with you." She felt her continued presence was pointless.
In the elevator, Lisa grumbled, "I didn't expect Helen to be like that! I sympathized with her, thinking she was acting out of concern for her son. I thought she was just unlucky. Apparently not. Mike left her for another reason."
"They're divorced?" Lily asked, raising an eyebrow. She wasn't interested in gossip, but she'd noticed something in their interaction.
"To be exact, they broke up. They were never married, but Helen was clinging to the relationship, trying to get him back. Initially, I even considered helping her. Now, I think Mike made a wise choice!" Lisa said angrily.
Lily remained silent. She didn't know them well; it was their affair, not hers.
