Lily almost reached out to touch Alexander’s tanned skin and well-built muscles. She gulped. “Lily? Lily?!” Nathaniel suspected she’d hung up when he received no response, so he called her name repeatedly.

As their lips neared, Alexander turned sideways and gently kissed her cheek near her ear. He straightened and walked into the walk-in closet.
Thud! The phone slipped from Lily’s hand and rolled onto the carpet. Fortunately, it landed on the carpet; otherwise, it would have shattered.
Nathaniel, still on the line waiting for a response, heard the loud thud. He quickly pulled the phone from his ear, exclaiming, “Lily! What the hell are you doing?! Are you even listening to me?”
Lily squatted to pick up her phone, calmly wiping it. “Mr. Hall, what’s the matter? You can tell me,” she said, after confirming it wasn’t damaged.
“Why, you…!” Nathaniel suppressed his anger, reminding himself to tolerate her until they settled their matters at the press conference. “The press conference I mentioned is scheduled for tonight. Come to MN Inc. later, and we’ll attend together. We’ll rehearse on the way. We should suppress this incident and minimize the negative impact on the company.”
Lily sneered. “What about the negative impact on me?”
Nathaniel was silent for a moment, then softened his voice. “Lily, you’re aware of how much this incident has affected MN Inc. The company is our life’s work, and you’ve sacrificed much for it. I don’t think you want anything to happen to it, do you? Listen, I know this might make you feel aggrieved, but the company will become more popular and influential once we resolve this. We’ll get married after that, okay?” He promised to marry her again, using his eloquence to coax her, but Lily was unconcerned.
“All right, then.” Lily paused, pretending to be persuaded. “You’re right. I’ve put much effort into MN Inc. and don’t want anything bad to happen to it.” If I could put that much effort into a company, I could also withdraw from it. If I built it, I could destroy it as I please, she thought.
Relieved, Nathaniel said, “Then hurry to the company. I’ll be waiting for you!”
When Lily hung up, she stood and saw her husband already in his robe, as if preparing for bed.
“I’ll be out later for the press conference,” Lily said bluntly. She knew it was best to be honest; he would find out eventually.
“What’s the hurry? It’s still early; let’s rest,” Alexander slowly approached her. “I’ve adjusted the water temperature and prepared everything you need.”
