Rhea suspected the embassy doctors were incapable of handling Lily's condition; otherwise, Fred wouldn't have been so hesitant to inquire about it. She anticipated Fred seeking her assistance if Lily's situation worsened.
In Lily's room, the doctors clustered around her, drenched in sweat. Despite their efforts, they could only maintain her heart rate; her vital signs indicated she was dying. The cause remained elusive. The thought of the consequences of her death intensified their perspiration.
"How is she?" Fred asked, returning to the room. He couldn't allow Lily to die, especially now, at this critical juncture.
Seeing the electrocardiogram readings, Fred's frustration flared. "Her condition is unchanged! What have you been doing?!"
"Your Grace, we've tried everything, but can't determine the cause. Her organs are failing."
Fred snapped, "I want results, not excuses!" His expression was grim.
"But..."
"No buts! If she doesn't wake up by tomorrow morning, you'll all regret it!"
He turned to leave.
"Your Grace!" a doctor called out.
Fred stopped. "What?"
"There's one method we could try."
Intrigued, Fred urged, "Go on."
"We've exhausted all options except acupuncture. It involves needles, and I've heard it might yield unexpected results. Perhaps we should try it."
"Acupuncture?" Fred found the suggestion intriguing. "What are you waiting for?"
The doctors looked troubled. The one who'd made the suggestion explained, "We don't know how." It was a technique unique to Hyderland; he'd witnessed it, but neither he nor the others had learned the method.
