Fred was in a terrible mood as he left the room. He stomped toward the queen's chambers, but stopped short. Changing his mind, he turned and walked back. Although he had someone watching Ross, he couldn't risk the prince discovering the queen's imprisonment. He might not lose a direct confrontation with Ross, but Fred preferred to avoid complications.
He went to Ross's bedroom, assuming the prince was still inside. Exchanging a look with his subordinate, Fred confirmed Ross hadn't left recently. Feeling slightly more relaxed, he knocked. There was no response.
"He's not like Lily, is he?"
Fred frowned and knocked again. "Your Highness, I need to discuss something with you." Still, no sound.
Assuming the room was empty, Fred looked to his subordinate, who gestured in confusion, indicating no one had left. Fred cleared his throat and knocked harder. "Your Highness? I'm coming in."
He turned the handle and entered. A cold voice cut through the silence. "Fred, what do you think you're doing?"
Stunned, Fred quickly turned and bowed. "I didn't mean to offend you, Your Highness. I was worried about your safety, so Iโ"
"So you came into my room without my permission?" Ross asked coldly. He looked as if he'd just showered, a towel around his waist and his hair dripping wet, yet his gaze was icy. Fred bowed. "I didn't know you were showering, and I was worried. Soโ"
"Worried about my safety?" Ross plopped onto the sofa. "What's there to worry about? The embassy has ample guards and surveillance cameras, doesn't it? Why? Is this place unsafe? You've failed in your duty if it is."
Fred quickly replied, "No, that's not what I meant. Of course, the place is safe, but you're not used to things here. I was just concerned you might have a minor mishap while alone. It's best to be cautious, Your Highness."
"Are you implying something would happen to me if I'm alone?" Ross said coldly.
"Of course not!" Fred smiled and stepped closer. "It's great that you're fine. However, I'll still need to enter without your permission if this happens again. After all, your safety is paramount." Fred lowered his head. "Anyway, I'm here to tell you something important."
"Oh?" Ross narrowed his eyes. "About what?"
