Lily expected Fabian, but Rhea appeared instead. Lily was shocked, though she knew Rhea hadn't expected to see her either. Rhea chuckled meaningfully. "Fancy seeing you here."
Lily narrowed her eyes. "I didn't expect you to come."
"Why? Can't I be here?" Rhea walked over and sat on the bed. "You seem to be enjoying yourself." She looked Lily up and down. "Oh, you unloaded the cargo, huh?"
Upset by Rhea's words, Lily asked, "Why are you here?"
"To achieve my dreams, of course! Don't worry, I'm not the one who will experiment on you," Rhea replied indifferently, dangling her legs and looking around. "They finished your checkup, huh? That means the final phase is about to begin. Should I congratulate you?" Her gloating tone dripped with sarcasm.
Lily sneered. "You should. After all, I'll make history completing a legendary experiment. Too bad you don't have a chance to do something so significant for humankind." Rhea's smile froze; confusion clouded her features. "Aren't you scared?"
"Why would I be? We are all bound to die. Besides, my accomplishments will be a crucial milestone in human history. Many would do anything for my place now." Lily's excitement about the experiment was evident.
"But you're going to die! Your body will live on, but you're no longer yourself without your consciousness and soul." Ironically, Rhea seemed more anxious than Lily, who simply nodded calmly. "I don't give a shit. As I said, everyone dies sooner or later."
"What about your kids? Based on what I know, you already have three children, right? If you die, they'll lose their mother forever!" Rhea asked tentatively, unconvinced. She'd expected Lily to break down, but the latter remained calm, even looking forward to the experiment. Rhea thought Lily must be faking it. She'd purposely mentioned the children to agitate her.
Lily raised an eyebrow. "Of course, I feel bad for them," she said, adding before Rhea could gloat, "But many children are far worse off. Some have neglectful parents; others have none. My children are much luckier. Don't you think so?"
Rhea was surprised, speechless.
