Mike was surprised. "What did you discover?"
Alexander looked at Mike and Edward. "Didn't you notice Fred's injured arm?"
Edward and Mike exchanged puzzled glances. "Yes, but what does that have to do with anything? Didn't he say he fell?" Mike asked, frowning. "Why did you insist on helping with his arm? Who cares if it's broken?"
Alexander shook his head. "Why do you think he refused my help, even though I insisted?"
"How would I know?"
"Because he has something to hide," Alexander said flatly. "He's also far more clever than we thought."
Fred's refusal implied he'd guessed Alexander's intentions. Mike and Edward remained oblivious. Of course, Fred might simply be suspicious of Alexander.
Mike was puzzled. "Is there anything suspicious about his injured arm?"
Edward caught on. "You think it's connected to Lily?"
Alexander nodded.
Edward, unlike Mike, understood. Fred's arm was dislocated, not broken. The unusual angle reminded Alexander of Lily's unique fighting techniques. He hadn't noticed it initially, but observed it as Fred turned to leave, prompting Alexander's offer of assistance.
Fred's refusal, however, suggested caution, or perhaps an attempt to conceal the truth. "So, what does it mean?"
"It means Lily is inside the embassy," Edward stated confidently.
"Well, we knew that. We still couldn't find her."
Alexander waved a hand dismissively. "No, his injury is recent; the splint and bandage look freshly applied. He was just hurt. Which means..."
"Lily is there right now!" Mike shouted excitedly, finally understanding. He sprang to his feet, then, forgetting his location within the minivan, bumped his head and slumped back into his seat.
