"Dr. Blanc? What kind of doctor are you?" Austin asked, turning to the man. The two assessed each other without shaking hands.
After a moment, Alexander said, "Dr. Blanc, as I mentioned, we face a critical situation. Austin is no ordinary man. His connection to Dominicโ"
Dr. Blanc raised a hand, stopping Alexander, and gestured toward Austin. "Hello, I'm Dr. Blanc from the X Department."
Austin was surprised by Dr. Blanc's directness. He hesitated, then shook the doctor's hand. "What's the X Department?"
"It's a secret national department. We don't disclose its existence unless individuals possess special clearance," Dr. Blanc replied, nodding.
"So, I have special clearance?" Austin asked, pointing at himself. He'd never heard of the department, but sensed Dr. Blanc's sincerity.
"You do, given your involvement today," Dr. Blanc said, leaning back in his chair.
Austin looked to Alexander for clarification, but Alexander remained silent, deferring to Dr. Blanc.
Dr. Blanc cleared his throat and crossed his arms. "Our department's primary research focuses on biochemistry, viruses, and medicineโincluding, but not limited to, what you've encountered. The vaccine development center's lab is now in chaos following its abandonment. Mr. Russell has already investigated and suspects attempts to exploit the situation. Radicals might also try to sabotage it. Since the number of viruses is unknown, the X Department will secure the facility before its destruction."
Austin started to speak, but Dr. Blanc continued, "However, we need someone familiar with the location, as the department lacks knowledge of the other viruses. We require someone capable of handling viruses and unforeseen circumstances. That's why Mr. Russell recommended you."
Austin finally understood Alexander's request. After considering this, he said, "I see. So, I'll be working with your department. Does that make me one of you?"
Dr. Blanc smiled. "Yes and no. You're more of an outsourced contractor, but you'll have access to our privileges." He studied Austin. "So, Dominic is your granduncle, huh?"
"You know him?" Austin asked, surprised, looking between Dr. Blanc and Alexander. He quickly grasped the situation without needing further explanation.
