Lilyโs tone was unfriendly. The doctor reached for his instruments, then paused. Lily kept her head down, gently patting her babies. โWhatโs the point of these examinations?โ she said. โI know my body well. No one can stop me if I kill myself. Tell your bosses to agree to my conditions if they want cooperation. Otherwise, they wonโt get what they want. I guarantee it.โ
Everyone present, including the doctor, exchanged troubled glances. After a moment, the doctor said, โMs. Christian, youโre putting us in a difficult position. We donโt know whoโs in charge or what your conditions are. Weโreโฆfollowing orders.โ
Lily nodded, finally raising her head. โThen tell whoever it is that I want to see them. I have something to say. Otherwise, they wonโt get what they want. Thatโs it.โ
After speaking, she carefully placed one child in the small cart. Glancing at the other, sleeping soundly with its head tilted, she noted how similar the twins looked. Yet, even in these few days, she could already distinguish them. The boy had a good temperament and slept well, always peaceful. His sister, however, was more temperamental, pouting and crying at the slightest discomfort. Once, she'd cried loudly when the doctors brought her to Lily; Lily had initially thought her daughter was ill, but realized she was simply in a bad mood. Interestingly, her brother had slept through it all.
Lily gently soothed her daughter back to sleep before asking the doctor, โWhere do you want to do the examination?โ
The doctor stammered, โW-What?โ
โArenโt you supposed to be examining me? Get it over with,โ she said impatiently.
โOh, yes, of course,โ he recovered his composure.
Two nurses and the doctor were in the room; one nurse was new. Even the doctor had been changed previously. The organization seemed to employ various combinations, perhaps to prevent Lily from becoming accustomed to their presence. The person orchestrating this was meticulous and excessively suspicious. Later, lying in her bedroom, Lily stared silently at the ceiling.
The doctor and nurses opened their medical kit and proceeded with blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, and other procedures. Theoretically, these were unnecessary; Lily wasnโt hypertensive nor did she have any underlying health issues. However, the frequency suggested an effort to ensure her body was in optimal condition, whenever needed. After all, whoever intended to use her body was clearly not ordinary.
After the examination, the nurses put away their equipment. Lily sat up and looked at the doctor. โHowโs my surgical wound healing?โ
The doctor replied, โItโs healing well. No problems if you avoid overexertion and rest. Your physical conditionโโ
Lily interrupted, โI know. My physical condition has never been perfect.โ
โHuh?โ
