After setting up, the doctor briefly glanced at Lily without speaking. His gaze suggested he wanted her to approach, but she remained still. She wanted to observe their actions.
"Ms. Christian, please have a seat," a guard said.
Lily glanced at him. "What will you do?"
"Please don't be nervous. It's a routine health check-up," the guard replied.
Lily squinted, sensing something amiss. "My health is fine. I don't need a check-up!"
Why would they suddenly want to examine me? she thought. What are their intentions?
"Ms. Christian, this is for your benefit. Consider your unborn child," the guard continued. "It's a typical health check-up. However, if you refuse, we must take extreme measures. We can't guarantee you won't be hurt."
The threat was clear. Lily considered her options. Even if she fought, she wouldn't necessarily win.
Could I escape if I took them all down? Unlikely!
She walked to the table and sat.
"Please roll up your sleeve," a nurse said. "We need to draw blood."
Lily squinted. "Draw blood?"
"Given your late stage of pregnancy, a check-up is necessary," the doctor said softly, his gaze lowered.
She looked at him intently but cooperated, slowly rolling up her sleeve. The nurse quickly applied a tourniquet and disinfected the area. Lily watched quietly; the doctor kept his gaze down.
The nurse drew blood, checked her heartbeat and blood pressureโonly basic checks. The doctor and nurses began packing up. Suddenly, Lily grabbed the doctor's hand. "Wait!"
Startled, the doctor flinched and glanced away. "Ms. Christian!"
"Are you afraid of me?" Lily asked.
"No..." He vigorously shook his head, but his body language betrayed him as he tried to pull away. He quickly released her hand and turned to the guards, nodding before hurrying from the room, seemingly fearing she would recapture him.
Lily watched them leave and then silently examined the needle mark on her arm.
Maria was distraught after leaving the garage. Rhea had returned, but she seemed changed. Maria worried constantly, checking on Rhea and anxiously awaiting her return.
Rhea forbade contact, so Maria dared not send a message. Rhea also forbade her involvement, silencing Maria completely. Maria only checked the garage if she heard a noise or saw someone tampering with it.
