Chapter 1783

"So, you're saying that to detoxify someone, you'd need a two-pronged approach?" He glanced at the concoction table, its steaming, traditional herbs rising in fragrant plumes. "Yup," she nodded, pointing in the opposite direction. "I've been developing this since I tried to detoxify you. Dr. Blanc had already researched the plague cure then. I heard from him that it's been approved and will soon be distributed to everyone infected. Don't you feel like the plague is nearing its end?" Alexander nodded. "That's true."

The plague's intensity had lessened, especially in Hyderland. It almost felt eradicated. Even Burnwken had passed its peak; they were merely dealing with the aftermath. While small-scale infections persisted, the situation was vastly improved.

"The most important thing now is to get rid of this!" Lily frowned, her expression solemn.

"Don't overwork yourself!" Alexander called out, seeing her serious face. He was awestruck and worried; heโ€™d always admired her dedication to her work. She transformed when focused, truly shining. But he also worried about her well-being and their unborn children. He'd never asked her to stop until she fell ill a few days ago.

He deeply understood her passions. He knew better than to use "for your own good" to restrain her, imprisoning her in a symbolic cage of love. Yet, he couldn't help but feel distressed. Never before, not even at her most engrossed in work, research, or experiments, had she worked this hard. She wasn't just swamped; she faced constant danger.

He'd faced numerous trials and risks since childhoodโ€”kidnapping, murder, and moreโ€”but nothing felt as perilous as these days. His investigation into the organization continued to unveil its unfathomable power. As for Mike, it was a battle of wits and courage until one compromised.

Frankly, Alexander was unhappy about Mike's actions. Yet, hearing Mike's explanation, he calmed. If Galen were ever kidnapped, and he couldn't find him, he might have done the same. No one was a saint; everyone had flaws. Until then, words were empty. He understood Mike's motivations.

Still, he couldn't comprehend Mike hiding it from Lily, much less hurting her.

"You're not the world's savior. There's no need to be so hard on yourself. You've done a good job!" Alexander comforted her softly, pulling her into a hug. Lily looked at him.

"I'm not the world's savior, but I want to do my best to protect myself and the people I care about. You're just like me! You've always protected and cared for me. Now that I have the ability and the opportunity, I'll do my best to protect you and our children!" Alexander smiled, leaning to kiss her forehead. "I believe in you!"

"Huh?"
