Chapter 1779
Anastasia sighed lightly. "Maybe it's because I've grown up," she murmured.
Fabian was momentarily confused. "Grown up?"
"Yes," Anastasia replied, looking sincerely at him. "I used to lead a carefree life under Aunt Maria's, your, and my father's care. Now, with my father's illness and everything happening at home, I must become more mature."
"Uncle Fabian," she continued, "I know you and Aunt Maria are saddened by Rhea's sudden passing, but you mustn't give up. You still have business to attend to, and Aunt Maria needs your care. We must both be strong for our family's sake!"
A long sigh escaped her lips, her eyes filled with resignation. Fabian, touched by her words, nodded. "You're right. We can't give up, and we must be strong! Tasia, you've done well. We shouldn't let others know about your father's condition. Rest assured, I'll help you keep it a secret."
"Thank you, Uncle Fabian," Anastasia whispered, glancing over her shoulder at her father lying quietly on the bed. "When my father learns about this, he will be grateful for your decision." Fabian felt a surge of resolve.
After seeing him and his men off, Anastasia felt utterly exhausted. The energy that had sustained her vanished. She had never handled such a situation before. Lying and evading the truth was far more draining than controlling her diet. However, she forced herself to adapt and learn. She was truthful about one thing: she could no longer live under her father's sole care; she needed to mature. This time, she was determined to protect him.
Meanwhile, Lily had resumed working in her little studio. She sat comfortably, a cushion supporting her back and a small blanket on her lap, determined to care for herself and her unborn children, as promised to Alexander. Her eyes focused on the workbench, the simmering herbal medicine bubbling gently to her left. She conducted two experiments simultaneously to expedite the process, though it was difficult given the variety of toxins affecting her patients. The toxins or viruses in Austin and Cameron, and those previously found in Alexander, were distinct, producing different effects. Based on Benedict's information, the research institute aimed to create biological weapons and manipulate people.
While Lily awaited the test results, her phone vibrated. Sheโd silenced it earlier. Seeing Mike's numberโthough she'd deleted his contactโshe smiled and answered. He sounded rushed. "Lily, when are you coming over?" he asked.
"Give me two more days," she replied calmly, her gaze fixed on the workbench.
