Listen to this chapter:

โ€œRhea is dead?โ€ A strange female voice asked.

Elijah was stunned, turning toward the sound. A woman entered from the backyard. She brushed the dirt from her hands before approaching, and he watched her every move until she hesitantly looked at Dominic.

โ€œUncle Dom?โ€ Dominic glanced at Lily and rubbed his nose. โ€œThis is my apprentice.โ€

โ€œHello, Iโ€™m Lily,โ€ Lily greeted Elijah politely.

Elijah found the name familiar, but he was far more surprised by Dominicโ€™s introduction. Was this an acknowledgment of his secret apprentice? And a woman! As Dominicโ€™s closest relatives, they knew he had a secret apprentice, though not their son, and had never learned the apprenticeโ€™s identity. Dominic had never mentioned it, and they werenโ€™t close enough to inquire. His open admission now was quite surprising.

โ€œJust nowโ€ฆ did you say Rhea is dead?โ€ Lily picked up the conversation. โ€œI overheard it outside.โ€

โ€œDo you know Rhea?โ€ Elijah asked, taken aback. He glanced at the old man before continuing, โ€œMy wife and I witnessed it. Her body was being carried from an exploded abandoned factory.โ€

โ€œYou saw it?โ€ Lilyโ€™s eyebrows rose. Is Rhea actually dead? Did she dieโ€ฆ just like that?

After a moment, Elijah said, โ€œHowever, I canโ€™t be sure. The person was burned beyond recognition. I couldnโ€™t identify them.โ€

โ€œThen how do you know it was Rhea?โ€

โ€œHer clothes! Mrs. Moore was wailing, saying they belonged to her daughter, but they were unsure. The bodyโ€™s been taken for autopsy. They need tests to identify it.โ€

Sighing, he turned to Dominic. โ€œBut I feel this accident is too coincidental, donโ€™t you think?โ€

Lily groaned, lightly drumming her fingers on her arms. Dominic glanced between her and Elijah. โ€œIt is coincidental, but there are many coincidences in the world. You canโ€™t judge solely on that.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re right. Iโ€™ll wait for the forensic doctorโ€™s report. Also, Iโ€™ve alreadyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t need to tell me all this. Settle your grievances yourself. Iโ€™m an old man. I donโ€™t want to interfere,โ€ Dominic interrupted.

Elijah nodded. โ€œOkay. As for Austinโ€ฆโ€ He had initially hoped finding Rhea would avenge his son and obtain the antidote from her.
