Chapter 1674
The video displayed the laboratory. Played at double speed, the footage quickly showed a figure in a hazmat suit and wide-brimmed hat stealthily entering. The person paused, seemingly scanning their surroundings, before proceeding to one of the observation cages. They retrieved something from their pocket and held it aloft.
Lily showed the video to the others; their eyes widened at the sight of someone entering the lab. Dashiell watched intently, his expression tense. He visibly relaxed, however, upon seeing the hazmat suit and mask obscuring the person's face.
When the video ended with the figure leaving the laboratory, Dashiell straightened, scoffing. "That's all you've got? We can't even see their face! Even if the video is real, how could you possibly claim it's me?" He snorted again. "Trying to frame me with such a ridiculous video? Dr. Russell, you're a terrible doctor but a good trickster, right? Dr. Blanc, don't tell me you believe her story! What I said was for the good of our project. Lily failed, and she's trying to set me up! There's no point in me working here if you won't do your job!"
Several colleagues, friendly with Dashiell, immediately came to his defense. "Yeah! How can we possibly know that's Dr. Stone? Dr. Russell, you're being unreasonable. Besides, who can prove the video is even real?"
Seeing Dashiell's confidence, Lily chuckled. "Do you think I'd accuse you without concrete evidence?"
"Then show us!"
Dashiell laughed dryly. "However, if it's something as ridiculous as that video, thenโฆ"
Before he could finish, his eyes widened. Lily tapped her screen, revealing another video. As the person left, they turned, revealing their profile. Though unclear, those familiar with Dashiell could identify him.
"No, that's not meโฆ" Dashiell stammered, staring at the image in shocked denial. "That's not me! This is slander and defamation!"
"Let everyone judge for themselves," Lily responded. "We've worked together a long time, Dr. Stone has many friends here. Since we know you so well, we can easily tell if it's you, can't we?"
She smiled, showing the phone screen to everyone. They leaned in to look. Those close to Dashiell initially attempted to find fault with the video, but after seeing it, they fell silent, their expressions shifting to suspicion.
"Why? Do you need more proof?" Lily asked, her smile fading, her gaze serious. "We're all colleagues, and I didn't want to single you out, but you left me no choice. Now I'd like to know why you did it."
"I didn't!" Dashiell exclaimed, his voice laced with fury. "How dare you accuse me based on these blurry videos?! I haven't done anything! How would I even know how your mice died? Don't try to blame this on me! I don't even know how to get into your lab, let alone sabotage you!"
