Chapter 1661
"It's all your fault!" Dashiell accused fiercely. "If it weren't for you, the child wouldn't be suffering so much, and her life wouldn't be in danger! How dare you!"
"I'm not messing around," Lily retorted coldly. "I need to take her pulse. Step aside!"
"Take her pulse? What for? Do you think your fingers can detect more than our professional equipment? Herbal medicine is unreliable! This is no time for parlor tricks. What else do you have to say?" He scolded angrily.
Several herbal medicine practitioners bristled. "How dare you call our methods parlor tricks? How is herbal medicine unreliable?" they protested. A heated argument erupted between the two factions.
Although some herbal practitioners doubted Lily's competence due to her age, they united to defend their practice. The ensuing commotion was considerable.
Lily ignored the bickering; time was of the essence. She reached for the child's wrist, but Dashiell swiftly blocked her.
"Stop it! We're trying to save her life! Dr. Blanc said we're responsible if anything happens to the child. You can't just do as you please!"
Frustrated by his interference, Lily snapped, "The child is still alive! What are you trying to achieve by stopping me? Will you only be happy when something happens to her?"
Dashiell was momentarily speechless. "Are you still not admitting your mistakeโ"
"Enough!" Dr. Blanc shouted, slamming the patient's file onto the floor. The sudden noise silenced the arguing doctors.
"Is this the time for quarreling? What about your duties? Your responsibilities?" he demanded, his gaze sweeping over their shamefaced faces. Turning to Lily, he said sternly, "Lily, remember what you said. We are accountable for our actions."
Lily nodded. "I do. I'll acknowledge my mistakes and take responsibility."
"Then take her pulse. Everyone, resume emergency measures."
Following Dr. Blanc's instruction, the others sprang into action. Dashiell reluctantly stepped aside, though he kept a watchful eye on Lily, clearly suspicious of her methods.
Lily composed herself, focusing intently as she took the child's pulse. She then examined the girl's eyes and mouth, checked her chest, inspected her palm, and carefully examined the soles of her feet. Her actions baffled the others; some saw it as a theatrical display, while others wondered if she had detected something significant.
