Chapter 1640

Lily had to admit that, despite her outward calm, her heart raced constantly. If this continued, she feared she might collapse. But just as she felt overwhelmed, he arrived. His presence was reassuring. Seeing him daily, exchanging a few words, witnessing his peaceful reposeโ€”it calmed her restless heart and gave her courage.

"How do you feel today?" she asked, sitting beside his bed and instinctively checking his pulse. Alexander, accustomed to this, offered his arm. Lily gently pressed his wrist, her focus evident as she felt his heartbeat. After a few minutes, she withdrew her hand and looked into his eyes, then requested he stick out his tongue.

Once finished, she inquired, "Is today's blood test result in?" She already had a general sense from his pulse, but this experimental center integrated modern and traditional medicine, requiring both blood test and machine results.

"No. It should be out by noon," Alexander replied. "You're a little anemic, a normal reaction after being ill so long. I've added some blood-enriching herbs to your medication. The taste will be slightly different. Remember to take it."

"Got it, Dr. Christian," he said, gently tickling her palm and smiling. He then asked, "Oh, how's Greg?"

"He's asymptomatic. He's in isolation and can leave in a few days if the results are clear," Lily replied. This reminded her of something. "Greg's a special case. Statistics show high infection rates among those who had close contact with him, yet he's fine."

"Maybe he's just healthy," Alexander replied with a smile. "I did ask him. I wondered if his diet or lifestyleโ€”he's lived in the mountains all yearโ€”had anything to do with it."

"Is this the direction of your researchโ€”finding a way to overcome this virus?" He immediately grasped her intentions.

Lily nodded. "Since ancient times, some people have been immune to plagues. Some are born with specific antibodies, through natural selection or whatever you want to call it. We can use them as a reference. It's just..." she hesitated, "I didn't want to involve Greg in the experiment. I've been speaking with him, and I think I've found something."

"Whatever you do, I'll support you. Just remember to take care of yourself!" He squeezed her hand.

Lily nodded. "I will!"

As she prepared to return to her laboratory, hurried footsteps and a piercing whistleโ€”the emergency call bellโ€”sounded from the next room. This was the room where Debbie was. Lily had left her fine. A chill ran down Lily's spine as she rushed to the next room.
