Chapter 1591

"I know. I knew you'd understand," the old man said, smiling after regaining the use of his body. Noticing Lily's worried expression, he asked, "What's wrong? How's your husband?"

"He's not doing well," Lily replied, shaking her head. She briefly summarized Alexander's condition over the past few days, detailing his pulse, changing symptoms, and lab results. The most perplexing aspect was the normal lab results; she only detected his internal organ distress through his pulse. Medical instruments seemed unable to detect the virus's effects.

"How interesting!" the old man mused, then quickly corrected himself, noticing her expression. "I didn't mean it that way. From your description, it seems the virus was designed to evade detection. Could it be a new divinely ordained disease?"

"It's man-made, not divinely ordained," Lily replied calmly. Years of experience allowed her to distinguish between natural and artificial diseases. The rapid succession of events, even before the storm had subsided, was overwhelming.

"Now that's interesting! If it's man-made, that person's a genius!" Dominic exclaimed.

"Can you stop the nonsense? I'm asking for your opinion," Lily sighed.

Dominic, with a calm smile, said, "His pulse sounds unstable, only normal during the day. Have you considered environmental factors? Many things can cause nocturnal palpitations. Don't jump to conclusions."

Lily nodded, pondering his words. She'd considered this, but Alexander's suffering had fixated her. That's why she'd sought Dominic's opinionโ€”for a fresh perspective.

"I also need some herbs," she said, handing him a list. Her condition prevented her from gathering them herself, and some required drying or special preparation, readily available through Dominic.

"Gosh! You're shameless!" he grumbled after reviewing the list. "How dare you? You've never hesitated to ask for favors before."

"Youโ€ฆ" Lily began, but Dominic, shaking his head, summoned a servant, giving instructions and the list. Turning back to Lily, he asked, "Did you go there that night? And yourโ€ฆ husband?"

"He's not an idiot!" Lily retorted.

Dominic clicked his tongue. "How come I've never seen you defend him like this?"

Lily rolled her eyes; she barely registered his comment. "He's in the hospital, receiving excellent care. And if the X Department solves this plague, that's good news for Alexander too." Dominic nodded.

"By the way, what is the X Department? How are you involved?" Lily asked.
